Yep, its thick epoxy glue. Its calculated risk since there is no room for a protective box - I can't make any changes or repairs once the epoxy sets.

OK, so the motor is an out-runner with a 3mm shaft sticking out of the can? On most out-runners its not hard to replace the shaft with a longer one.
