hey everyone (wait, no one reads my posts...). over the past 2 days I have done MAJOR work on Blazing star (about 4 hours in total) and have completed most of the frame / caster assembly. just need top and bottom armour and the whole frame is done. after that i will need to fork out for 2x 18v drill motors for drive and buy 2 large SLAs for power (i'm going with 24v)
feel free to comment, critisise and even delete this thread if it is boring, unimformative or stupid in any way.

hey everyone. there are 2 pretty bad pictures in the robowars photo album.
basically it is a brick made from 1mm (or there abouts) gal [ channel rivited together heald together with bits of ali angle on the sides. Its very tough .
Then there is my caster system, very simple to look at but it took me 3 hours to design and build and get it working properly. pretty hard to describe it so just check the (very fuzzy) photo of it in the photo album.
The drive will be (subject to change!) 2x 18v drill motors on 24v powered by 2x 2amp SLA batterys.
the hardest bit is the speed control. I cant afford an IBC and I dont want to go down the road of tamiya 3s again sp i am still working that out.

wow, yesterday I found a bad ass thick (2mm at least) peice of galvanised steel that is already (thank god ) bent into a suitable shape for a scoop!

I am redesigning blazing star after realising it is heavily unengineered. I am going for a design like that of tornado and storm 2 (either 4 or 6 wheel drive).
I will have large lawnmower wheels that I will glue new rubber to, I will use gum rubber or vulcan rubber. pretty simple but I will need rubber glue and stuff to make sure its perfect.

OK it has been cowyonks since i have posted here but I will post all my updates:

1. Redesigned blazing star, i am still considering what shape, a box or a wedge shape, 2 wheels or 4 wheels and what type of drill.

2. dost thou master wish to make thou decision o such wee importance so early in thous planning, oh well it is up to thee. sorry my shakesphere side speaking out there. the "wee" announcement i have decidided that I wil use ali for a frame and hopefully ali for armour.

3. ok i have decided a bundle today. I am still thinking about 2 or 4 wheels, their advantages and disadvantages but I have decided that the wheels will be 10 inch pnematic trolley wheels a.l.a hellbringer.
The drill motors will be super works 18v drills (unless i can find a cheaper 18v drill) on 24v. this bot will be flying high in no time.

<whistles> this bot is looking to be more expensive than I an ticipated.... But it is gonna kick ass in the arena -HOPEFULLY- well, have to wait till next year to find out though.....
I have decided to go with 4WD with 2x 12v SLAs driving it. I am not planning to have a weapon other than some ramming attachments but I am holding my hopes high that I can get a 4ch radio by then.

well face it... its been YONKS since i posted any updates for BS but hidden in the shadows of my psychotic mind are the plans for my next robot.

My idea is to make the most anorexic Australian robot ever. Right now it looks as if it will be between 4cm and 4.5cm high and 40cm square in length and diameter.

The weapons will be the usual ramming points like spikes and scoops.

the guts will consist of 2x 12v 2.2amp SLAs securely bolted down. 4 12v dirll motors overvolted to 24v and some sort of physical control system... back to my roots lol. Actually its got more to do with the size than the fact that I cant afford it...

Anyway i hope you guys made appropriate sense of my ramblings...

I believe Karmond was working on a similar project, his problem was drills would only fit if you make the bot around 50mm tall including 3mm armour top/bottom. You might need more then 2 x 2.3amp SLA's to feed four hungry drill motors that are overvolted, 12v your might be fine, but 24v will just leave you doing a Hellbringer.

good to see your building a new robot, the only way you can get better is by practise.

i would recommend running the drives at 12v and putting the batteries in parrallel as well. youll probably kill the batteries pushing them that hard.

well, I looked at my bot today, blew the dust off (a few puffs worth) and I was reminded of how inconplete the robot is. Here is a summary of what I have to afford over the next few months to get back into the competition:

1. Get 8 grippy rubber wheels, 4 of which are replacement
2. Get speed controller (probably very expensive)
3. solve my battery woes (lol)
4. Buy solution to battery woes (lol)
5. Buy drill mounts that will fit in under 5cm
6. Buy appropriate fasteners
7. Put the stinkin thin together
8. drop it off a bench to test strength
9. put it back together
10. make it more robust
11. BATTLE!!!

I wouldnt be surprised if I havet done anything aout it in a few week time though so dont hold your breath
