simple weight and RC freq questions

Hi,

Very new here with a partially built school featherweight bot hoping to enter the next Victorian event at Sidetracked (somewhere in July I guess).

I have 2 simple questions

- is the weight limit 12kg (as in robowars-rules.pdf) or 13.63kg as mentioned immediately below that link on the 'rules page'. Of course we're hoping it's 13.63kg!

- we have an RC controller that's on 36.250MHz which I see is on a frequency used by a 'TechnoMagic' team robot - can someone tell me if that's still in use and if so - any hints on cheap crystal sources? Our local hobby shop is talking $40-50 for a pair of crystals.

Thanks,

Doug & Bellarine SC Team

Thanks

Hi.

Thanks for the quick reply on the 13.6kg - naturally our 1st bot is going to be heavy so we need as much as we can.

I did wonder if some of the reserved frequencies might be old. I even saw one of the NSW ones listed as 30.400 which I think is in the old cordless phone area - could make for some interesting interference.

Thanks,

Doug & Bellarine SC team

Welcome Doug and Co.
The 36.250 set a 5 ch Jr is currently in my possession in Geelong.
It is set up in Caketaker and is only used for demos etc it will definitely not be used in any legit feather fights so no problems with your use of that frequency. Smile

Hey that's great! So 36.250MHz it is then. I'll email to register it so that people know that someone is planning to use it in a competing robot.

We're in Geelong too. Are there many bot builders in Geelong that you know of?

Thanks again,

Doug & Bellarine SC team

Not many I suspect that builders are a rare breed and considering Australia’s population compared to the US and UK and the fact that they had TV shows to get them off to a flying start I think we are probably doing as well as can be expected.
I find it interesting that such a tiny sport as ours can exist because of the internet.
Looking forward to catching up to you in RL. Smile

Thanks,

We've tested 1/2 our motor driver and mounted our drive motors. We're within our weight budget by about 1kg so far. Next week we test 1/2 our brain for interpreting the RC signals. It's going to be tight to be ready for the next Sidetracked event, but we'll be there no matter what! So what if it's that day I'm supposed to move house!

See you,

Doug & Bellarine SC team
