Aerodynamite - the one robotics

I'm having some troubles with the fbs design. Firstly, the only omni's i can get, are 60 mm dia, and my frame will be at least 56 mm thick, 2 mm ground clearance isn't enough(do'h)

I can do two things:

1. put in 6 smaller 600 type motors (i won't risk putting 8.4 volt motors on 24 v Embarassed )

That way i can use a thinner frame (i'll have to remake the frame...) and use the 60 mm omni's. That's an awful lot of gearboxes and motors though(pricey)

2. use the 3 (or 4) speed 900 motors in something else

I can try an over-the-top pushybot that can drive in almost any direction using 3 or more speed 900's (54 mm dia motors Shocked ) on 24 v.
That way the wheel transmitter i have could help driving A LOT.

Any ideas on what would be the best bet, anyone?

I don't know any translational spinner designs that run Omni wheels. I believe they arn't used because they don't provide the traction that a translational spinner needs to spin up quick.

I would try the Triton approach, just based ons pure simplicity and easy of design.

The omni wheels I have are 80mm dia but have bugger all grip in any direction. Its is also very critical what sort of surface you are running on. I have found that in some cases you are just as likely to get the same performance using the 95mm red wheels. If I went to Sydney to fight on the steel floor I would deffently need to switch to the red wheels.
