Funbotics - Plan-B - Planners

well to get the ball rolling heres our new bot for the MDF class.

we are using the disk from Plan-B and the fan motor but with a nice long V or A or something belt.
4 drill motors
power is from 4 drill packs, 3 in parallell to the drive motors and one in seires to the weapon motor.
main construction material is 12mm MDF, aluminium angle 1x metric assload of buttonhead bolts and nuts to suit.

and here be thar plans in rhino format

note this file has been compressed with rar not zip you may need to get something like winrar to uncompress it (the reason for this is when rar'ed it was half the size of zipped)[/list]

I like the MDF motors and batteries.
That limits the KE somewhat!

I approve the general design, but did you work out the weight? MDF is relatively dense and I would guess that with 4 motots and that big disk, the bot will end up at 15Kg or more.

we figure about 11 kg sans battery and ESC protection.
keep in mind they arent counted towards weight.

also looks like we may need to up or alter that limit somehow. spoke to chris today and he runs 3x 15v 3.5AH packs for sorry. but he dosent draw them flat after each round. so i dunno what you do there

looks fine to me, are the bearings bored into the wood itself or some aluminium bolted to the MDF? or a stationary shaft.

To save weight, I was thinking about bearings in the drum, with short shafts mounted on fairly large plates to carry the impact energy out into the frame. The plates would probably be large enough to touch the floor during impacts and avoid over-stressing the MDF. One thing about this class is the possibility of making LOTS of spare MDF parts at low cost. With plenty of spares, even major damage can be repaired quickly.
