Shipping & Transporting robots
thought this might be a good thread to make with robowars getting a bit closer.
id be interested to know how much it is to get a standard featherweight and all the tools and things couriered to melbourne and any other little quirks that i should know.. recommendations would be great.
as for taking the robot on the airline heres my experience with it.
* SLAs, we had to put them in a leak proof container with padding in it. i just put some foam inside a tupperware container.
* Individual nicads for the radio i put into zip lock bags and shoved them in their own container.
* the radio itself i took on as carry-on but i had to show them that the batteries where taken out of it.
that was with cobra and screwy and ive never taken anything like kang with a massive saw blade or a custom made nicad pack so i dont know how theyd be with something like that. anyone had experience with that?
do you reckon the airlines would have a problem with a custom metal case for the robot? the battered the crap out of my old case coming home from melbourne last year. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Weight would be an issue too. _________________ ( •_•)

There is a pretty good chance I will take the van down to Melbourne as I have WAY too much stuff I want to take with me - you can send anything that's too heavy / dangerous / suspicious down with me. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

a bot in the arena is one thing
in the baggage handling system is another. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

@Nick - The SideTracked Workshop is available to competitors in need (under supervision of the owner or their resident mechanic),
They do have a nice Mig Welder and stuff, but no CNC Mill's I'm afraid, so you'll have to bring that to rebuild Jolt after all us Victorians have finished with it.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
