Just re read those posts: about the glow plug idea for lighting the gas. I haven’t tested it but I tend to doubt that the nichrome will ignite the gas. I was just going to use a small gear motor and a crank and conrod arrangement to fire a piezo spark to light things up

Bort used a BBQ lighter pulled on with car door actuator. Worked very well, was super simple and made a nice pilot light you could turn on and off.

Yes I did notice that it worked well.
I guess I just wont a cleaner look and I am hoping I can get reliable ignition without a pilot light.
Grantville was extremely windy the day we were there, its right on the bay, I think a pilot light would blow out instantly, I think Neweyn was going to try a pilot light.
I can think of other ways to make sparks but as radio range is a high priority I didn’t wont to get too carried away. Smile

As Pyrobot doesn’t have a high KE weapon it is allowed to weigh up to 50kg so I don’t have to be stingy with the weight points, plenty of steel and nice easy to charge SLA’s

I reckon you could use a slightly modified driver circuit for those 250v Neon tube drivers. Just replace the neon tube with a pair of closely spaced electrodes and you have a spark ignitor that runs off 9v Cool

I had the diagrams for the circuits somewhere...

Back in my day we would just rob the vibrator out of our valve car radio and hook it up to a car ignition coil. Very Happy

Bah, not ghetto enough, grab a flyback from an old monitor / TV and drive it off the pulsed output of an XU1 drill trigger . . . that'll give you a purple arc that sings.

Disposable camera flashes work fairly well too if you just need a pulse and dont mind the recharge time. They also double as a portable (often unintentional, self inflicted) pain-inducing device lol

Yes I am going to try that I remember you posting that in the other thread, I deliberately kept a couple of those from a couple of monitors I gutted for Overdrive one of the novelty bots that still not debuted.

the pizerro idea will probaly generate the les interferance of them generating high voltage arcs and the capacitor charge circutes all generate high leves of RF noie ...i have a home made electric fene unit here that uses a trembler coil a couple of caps and a car ignition coil conect it to 2klm of electric fencing and it blows out tv;s and radios for miles around with harsh static

Got a lot done on Pyrobot on the weekend, Rob is going to put a few pictures up soon. Cool
Don’t think he will cope very well with Hyzer but with no aggression points I can just run away and hope he runs out of battery first. Then again if I run away backwards I can flame him at the same time, that might slow him down. Smile

Those drive motors look interesting Cool Similar in size and shape to the EV's, but with the off-centre output shaft, I think it would be safe to say they are also geared Razz
