Hmm so you're making a robot that welds?
Interesting... unfortunately nothing really similar to that is made by people on this forum. Would I be right thinking this is more like a robotic arm rather than a driving (with wheels) platform? If so, perhaps try to find some sort of automation forum, they may be able to help out more than we can. Smile Sorry about that.

Well this is my area of expertise.

First I will need to know what type of welding robot you wish to design.

What type of welder are you planning on using?

Is it only going to weld a straight line?

Or is it welding on a flat table?

Or are you looking at welding round and box tubing, odd shapes, etc.

This will determine the number of axis required and the costs.
More axis higher the costs

But the big thing to remember is the RF generated by the welder used.
Therefore you will need to be very careful regarding shielding.

The other issue is the heat, but that is only close to the welding head.

To give you an idea about different robot designs have a look at this site.

http://www.abb.com/

ABB are one of the biggest companies that build robots to suit their client’s applications.

I would not be expecting something like this to be built.
