not too sure, all i know is the one i have now has two pretty large processors on the back whereas the triton has none. not sure if that has any bearing on things but i presume it would.

IIRC all lcds have a standard interface. Did a bit of stuff trying to hook them up to some pics. They can either be hooked up with 4 or 8 data wires n power, ground, backlight and intensity if i remember correctly. If you can find a pinout for them you should be able replace the triton one.

Nearly all of those 16x2 LCD's do have a common interface spec.
Look at Page 11 here.. http://www.junun.org/markiii/datasheets/162A0LED.pdf

The physical construction varies from model to model, different backlights, sizes etc, sometimes the pins are even backwards, so check for the grounds being in the right spot according to that spec.

I cant see the Triton LCD not having the interface processors on it.. that would mean every LCD pixel on the screen would have to be controlled by the Tritons processor and there would be hundreds of wires connecting it to the main board. Its probably mounted behind the LCD or something on your model.

If the Triton LCD has the same number of connecting wires (16?) as the LCD I gave you, chances are it is the standard interface and will work, although it might not mount the same way and might need some hacking to get it to fit.

If you want to keep it looking stock, have a look through these
http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.aspx?Ntt=16x2+lcd
to see if you can find one with the same physical specs.
