Then they are weighed after the fight to make sure that what did the fighting was legel. The same thing happens in all sports.

this is true, but most sports don't involve the loss of bodily appendages and organs during competition.

Don't forget that most sports have a minimum weight limit for each class, whereas we have a maximum weight limit.

Boxing, which was my main example, has a upper weight limit which the fighters push against. Car racing also involves loosing parts and has a minimum weight limit, yet they are bright enough to account for the loss of parts.

Most of those sports are involved with speed, where loss of weight is a benefit.

in car racing, being lighter is an advantage, so cars have to be above a minimum weight at the end of a race, after draining all remaining fuel.
Lost parts count, but generally cars with missing parts don't finish up the front.
Even so, teams push the boundaries with the weight, to the point where they try to drive over as much debris as they can after the race ends, to add some extra weight to the tyres.

Last year (or the year before?) Honda F1 were disqualified for having a fuel system that didn't entirely drain, effectively acting as ballast at the weigh-in.
