@ Aaron: I figure the KE is slightly down on the old blade; the new one is slightly shorter and the curved shape makes it impossible to model in the Team Cosmos KE calculator. The current KE crown would have to rest with Angus right now. On the other hand, Jolt can spin up faster so there is a bit of an advantage for a fast attack.

@ Simon: I found the only place that had the 150 amp model with leads was fastelectrics.com. Definitely not the best price at $106 but WAY cheaper than burning a big Lipo pack. I found that only the bigger and twice as expensive logger works with the accelerometer, so that option is out Sad The logger er should be here in a few days and I will keep you posted.

Not worried about who takes the crown of highest KE, just intersted in a ball park figure to see what kind of energy todays bots have evolved to...

When you pause to think that this type of technology was only available to the military or million $$$ car racing teams just a a few years ago and now the average person can buy a tiny module to do the same stuff, its pretty mind blowing. How long before we can get an R/C controller with all this built in and live video from several angles? With direct thought control? From the other side of the planet? Smile not so far away, methinks...

Side Note:

If anyone really needs metal stock that is impossible to get locally. I can really recommend http://www.metalexpress.net . they have the lowest prices for cut to size aluminium I have found so far and have been very helpful. The UPS courier charge hurts, but all their competitors charge the same or more.

It'd make me nervous to push a few hundred amps through a "hobby amp" rated device. Adding failure points should be getting you a big return ;-> If it was a wire clamp style thing it'd be ok.

I'm hoping for a 5 axis IMU with the next version of our radio (Sparkfun $100)

Trust me, this gadget is NEVER getting in to a real match! I plan to make it a bolt-on external logger for testing only. The heavy gauge power leads look reassuring and since the heavy current path only needs to go past the hall sensor and then out to the rest of the bot, one can hope the rating is realistic.

Weightwatchers bot
I compared the original and replacement drive motors today:

The new solution has lighter plastic spacers, almost twice the wheel width and weighs 260 grams less than the original (per pair). 260g doesn't sound like much but every bit counts when your bot is close to the weight limit.

The new jolt has the same problem. I made the baseplate longer and added thicker front & back panels, now its within a few grams of the limit - perhaps its the 5mm Ti armour...

Laughing When will you learn that throwing titanium at your problems won't make them go away?
Concern I would have with the UHMW is it will deform pretty fast, perhaps Smile
Don't forget Jolt showed the world that you can in fact tear/shear uhmw so keep in mind that any bolt holes might cause stress points.

What, titanium can't cure cancer and deliver would peace??? I am SO disillusioned! The MHW spacers should be fine as they are sandwiched between two layers of metal and they don't need any structural strength - I can always put the aluminium spacers back in if there are problems.

It's hard to say if the new wheels will be grippier than the old ones - the first lot of urethane was a bit hard and while the wheels are tough, they have the same or less grip as a Colson wheel; not bad, but not what I needed.

The new urethane with added plasticiser is very grippy up to the point where bits of plastic start ripping out - I can gouge out chunks with a fingernail! The next batch need to be about half way between the first two and I am looking at buying more urethane in the next week or so.

The server was running low on space, so that might have broken the PM's for a while, but I found some log files the other day munching up hundreds of megs and cleared them, so if the PMs are still broken, someone let me know.

Brett: has anyone mentioned not getting notification emails for new posts? I don't recall getting any for several weeks. Thanks for looking after the site, we don't say thankyou often enough.
