Home at last what an event .

I made a mistake of not checking my bot before its first fight thinking all was ok .my only break down dureing our testing event was the servo leads comeing out of the spectrum so i taped them up as per Aarons instructions but dureing the final preps before packing the robot for some reason i must have taken the tape back off thus loseing my fight at Robo wars with Orbit as the first bounce made them come out . But i dint tell him i was stoped lol and I let them get seperated whilst he had another go at me still unpowerd and flipped him self in the proces lol . He also refused to give me a re match at the end of the comp .. so i ws a little disapointed in that.

I fixed the unpluging problem by putting the spectrum radio inside the same box as the IBC and it held the leads in tightly aslo getting rid of all the messy servo leads that were the cause of the plugs comeing out under their weight .

My second fight was fun and i lost my third putting me out of the comp .

Then it was entered an a couple of the light weigh matches which were also a lot of fun . I went on to compete in the Mellee in which time my strategy was to get under any close spinner and deliberatly try and carry it into another spinner i managed this a coulpe of times and i also managed to pile quite a few robots at a time together in tangled piles ...until they seperated and then i concentrated in piling them all up again ..watch the vid closely most of the time you cant see Off set as it is quietly shifting other bots into each other ...lol.

The robot performed flawlesly after that with no probems at all for at least 2 hours or much more of driveing time by my self and the audiance members over the course of the two days .
Once Again a great thanks to Brett for organising such a good event and Mell for being such a good host to a heap of unanounced guests.

Also thanks to every one else like Tim who Judged and helped out , Ajax who flew all the way from SA to do tech inspections and all the others like our camera man and Side tracked staff who helped any one who needed it and let us use the welder and work shop tools when requested .

The rest of the day and Sunday Offset spent itsa time in the arena every break leting the audiance drive it .


Once Again a great event and a thank you to all the others who atended to make it a good comp .

Congratulations to Garrys team for the win as well .

mmm thought i would drag this bot out from under a heap of old parts today as I
was helping Arron with his bot and had a play with offset i got bored tonight and decided to pull the toasted motor out after about half an hour i had all the wire off the armature and had it rewound with some wire i pulled off an old windscreen wiper motor that was the same gauge . put it back together and it is alive again lol

Mable it might make an appearance in Sydney

Now that you've rewound it, lets put the neodymium magnets in

NIB magnets? In a drill motor?? Wouldn't you have to do both sides to make it drive straight?

The robots called Offset for a reason, if it was built even, it wouldn't drive properly.

Um, replacing ferrite magnets with NIB magnets will (in theory) increase torque and reduce speed - dramatically. I once tried doubling up the magnets in a pancake motor and the speed was at least halved; you might get even more reduction with NIB magnets. Still think it will drive straight? How about going double or nothing...

Thats just Aaron having a go at me lol i dont have any nib magnets except out of old hard drives and they dont bend too easily to fit in a HTI motor

I should have guessed! The Astro motors (which are the same or smaller diameter than the HTI motors) have lots of long thin magnets glued into the can to simulate two large semi-circular magnets.
