LOL, I have (had) a very similar friction drive plan with the same blue motor. I have about 80% of the parts but no time to test the ideas out. Why do all my ultimate robot plans start with "Win Lotto..."? Laughing

Well nick, I have all the parts, if you wanted to test the idea out then you just need time Razz But then you'd be helping make a bigger undercutter... Laughing

i think running a friction anything off a blue motor is an excedingly bad idea, the bearings turn to powder just spinning themselves basically Razz

a light v belt drive onto the friction wheel would work pretty good though. and not weigh too much at all - ala mini mower.

and shreddy, i think getting your own robot in the ring and having a few battles would be ideal before you start blasting out comments like that Smile

My idea was (like Angus) to de-couple the brushless motor from the pounding that the friction drive gives the driving wheel bearings. I don't think there is a single brushless hobby motor that can last more than a few matches if it uses direct drive.

If we could approach some manufacturer to "Weaponise" a brushless plane motor with a 1/2" shaft, thick case, cooling fan, strong bearings, etc, then we would have some serious mayhem. <sigh>
