So it turns out I have not made a post in almost two years in the build thread so had to dig this out of the second page, how slack.
So Plastic Fantastic went better then could be expected given the short time frame of build.
Was a 13.x kg robot with barbie doll hood ornament and pink skirt against non spinners. About 2kg heaver then my previous plastic robots and the heaviest robot I have built. Also first robot without mixing, not as hard to drive as I thought it would be.
Power 5S A123
ESC: TZ85a's.
Armour: 50-80mm cutting board
Weapon, plastic to fill a spinners blade with.
Fight 1: Vendetta, a decent little fight against my arch nemesis who I draw every nationals. A lot of pushing but thankfully due to my large weight at the front he could not get under my bot and I managed to take out the win.
Fight 2: Demon, Glen could do little to my robot but create a lot of fine plastic dust an managed to remove three pieces of side armour but all sides had panels left on. Upon inspection all three ripped off at the short screw point and did not break with only 1 screw damaged so longer screws or some threaded bolts in the future may be the go. It was a fun fight and in the end the judges ruled against me. Understandable given I left 3kg of plastic in the arena and after attaching the armour I was 100grams lighter then when I entered. Would have been a hard fight to judge. Glen somehow did not kill barbie. After the fight I checked. Demon got within 200mm of my critical components.
Fight 3. Cojack. Another tough fight. Cojack is a little pervert, always getting underneath Plastic Fantastic and lifting her skirt.
Miles got under me a fair few times but the weight and shear size of my robot meant the MOI was against him so he did not manage to flip me. In the end I think Miles had slightly better control and could do more to me (lift if not flip or stack) so I am glad the fight went to him. (even gladder when I found out part of the skirt was found in his drive train post fight. Sorry Miles)
Fight 4. Annoying Box Rush. Another tough pushy fight. Lucky for me Aaron had lost one belt so was down to three wheel drive. His high ground clearence and 3 wheel drive dewalts/colsons were equally matched with my massive front heavy undervolted 18v drills and anderson combat wheels. Lost a bit of tread on the wheels from that fight, shame they can nolonger be retredded. Only one near new wheel left. Another judges decision in my favour thankfully. It was quite a fun fight for box vs box.
Fight 5. RoadKill. The less said about this fight the better. Road kill dominated the entire time and pushed me around like a rag doll. I could do nothing against him and he always managed to get under me. Even if he could not see where he was driving as I was on top of the little fellla more often then not. Judge decision but the winner was clear.
Sadly did not make the finals.
Rumble. Managed to hit scissorhands, demon and catastraphy in the rumble. Only lost the panels demon took off the previous day. Sadly not much damage. I the end, got highsided by some of my missing armour with catastraphy on top of me. Fun rumble.
Lessons learnt, always run your robot with a dead a123 in the pack. With the weight correct you get very good pushing power, traction and speed while using motors that have already been in fights. Normally I would have killed 2-3 motors in that many hard fights.
So the next feather robot will be a plastic spinner of some sort. This includes plastic spinning weapon. Will be interesting. Thanks Aaron for the challenge. Will need some high quality engineering plastic for this instead of my budget cutting boards.
First ant will be a hovercraft with a weapon yet to be finalised. I have two ideas. The ant will be for fun and will never win a fight as the second the pit opens I would be in it.
Does anyone have a picture of in tact dressed up Plastic Fantastic for the thread? _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.
