There was some more progress today, cutting the steel to size and some drilling of holes, however blood has already been spilt ... Adam, the workshop manager was helping me chopsaw some RHS to size and sliced his finger real bad on that nasty razorsharp swarf... So some of the arena has blood splatters on it now... _________________ ( •_•)
look out! its got a taste for blood! _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam

It shouldn't do, it'll be supported along the lower edge too by a small channel in the MDF. If it becomes a problem however it's quite easy to add some lightweight ali bracing to the up half to stop it, will need something like that for the roof construction anyway. _________________ ( •_•)

Hah, that bit was yeah , offcuts from plastix. Got the go-ahead today from everyone to purchase two full 2440 x 1830 x 3mm sheets for the real deal today. _________________ ( •_•)
Here's the breakdown for the costing, so everyone who's contributed to the club moneys over the years can have a chance to see.
Steel: Bulk of the arena is already purchased to the sum of $194, may need some more for roof supports and legs but can most likely salvage from uni/ offcuts at mascot steel.
Polycarbonate: We need two 2440 x 1830 x 3mm sheets to make all the walls. An online price I found was $220 per sheet this size, and i'm fairly certain plastix can do a WAY better deal. Assume $440 worst worst case for our polycarb.
MDF: Roof and floor are full MDF sheets, 3 and 6mm respectively. It's cheap as chips... Should be > $50
Side barriers: Either some thicker MDF or simply cheap pine planks, fairly thick they'll take a beating !
Fasteners: Mostly lots of M8's and nylocs. I'll have to calculate a price for these later but shouldn't be too bad.
If anyone objects please speak now or forever hold your peace.... _________________ ( •_•)

Photo dump.
Arena can be reconfigured into a 1200 x 1200 ant box.
Ran out of time to test assemble it all... but was sturdier than I thought and not too bad to assemble, even on my own! _________________ ( •_•)
