So ive naturally scrapped the other layout as it seemed too big to me and might be a bit hard to manage wieght, so ive gone and compacted it even further till i had more weight to play with as armour and a highly unlikely onboard compressor


Its all bolted onto 3mm mdf for the moment as a test base and to get the spacing for holes, will be replaced by aluminum.

And a huge scrap piece of 2mm mild steel as armour If too thin or have more weight, will upgrade to 3mm(top left of the picture just a tiny bit pokin out)


With this new compact layout, i need to cut down the arm now

Your layout looks good, Vignesh. You can lose a little more length by removing the clevis and drilling a mounting hole through the ram's shaft.

yes a compact bot is the way to go, more armour as you said
how are you gonna shape the outside of the bot?
are you gonna have one wedged side or wedges on all sides? (flat sides are lighter than wedge sides btw)

Ohhh... Yea so the design is basically a box but the top will be slanted more to the front -back higher than front- then i might have a toro style scoop, little scoopy shaped plate welded right beside the arm for protection. Or i might jst have a box with slanted top and a wedged front, matador style.

@phillip i just had a look at the ram to see if it would fit and if i didnt have it on, it appears to hit the tank without the clevis...

So um.. I got bored these holidays and decided to finish up my flipper for the fun of it.
This morning, i bolted everything to the frame and base plate, and went for a test flip. At 80 psi, i flipped my bot over and only had enough gas for 3 shots..
Tested self righting at 80 psi, gets stuck halfway. So i brought it up to 120psi. Still not working.
I put around 5 kg of weight at the front and it managed to fling it about 50cm off the ground. Tried again. Mangled the frame.

So Im changing basically everything about it. New arm, new ram, LP co2 system 120psi ish. This time i think im going to work on the maths before building it XD

Does anyone know what size ram would be best suited to a 12oz paintball tank as a buffer at 120psi or a 1.5kg powder extinguisher at 120psi, with a setup like the old marauder or

Edit:
Just calculated that using a 64mm bore ram at 200 psi with a 12oz tank should give me about 643N of force... Would that be enough to give a good flip or would i have to raise the pressure higher to get a nice air flip.

Which is cheaper? HP or LP?

I would guess LP will be cheaper.

Woody's website is a great help for deciding which ram and pressure to use. Many commercial rams are rated at 10 bar. Dived the "Distance above ground level" in half as a general rule of thumb.

The fire extinguisher will be lighter than a paintball bottle for a given volume. The buffer should be ~3 times the volume of the ram.

If you decide to go with high pressure, I would recommend that you speak to Assassin about a custom ram.

hmm. I would have thought FP would be cheaper. 2 12oz tanks, 1 bukert, 1 custom ram and fittings. Regulators and such seem expensive.

Ive been emailing mario about a custom ram and well. $220 for a 70mmx60mm ram is more than what i budgeted for a ram. So ive been getting design tips for either making it myself on a lathe, or having it made locally. Ill send assasin a PM.

That should work well. You will need a large ratio to keep the flow rate down to levels a Burkert will deliver, around 8:1.

You should be able to make a feather bounce off the roof with your proposed ram, buffer and valve.

Phillip, by ratio do you mean leverage ratio? I have no idea what that is XD

My weight budget for the pneumatics+ motors + electronics is around 7-8 kg.

Im going for basically the same setup as Skyfall in the UK.

Simple but easy to make for now as there is no need for alot of armour till we get some events running in Vic. I have all of the materials availiable to build it already so i can spend money on the pneumatics.

Does anyone have 2 12 oz Paintball tanks and/or a bukert 5404 valve for sale by any chance
