If you wanted to buy a 3 pounder??

I am thinking of possibly producing some 3 pounder kits, but would appreciate any input from members.
I have a basic 2 wheeled wedge, which could have a 1 piece heat treated shell, with options for a lifter, flipper and/or clamper type weapon
2nd on the list is a horizontal undercutter. I have a prototype called " The Wheel Deal", in that it should be best at removing wheels
So, while my main focus will be selling to education, i there is interest, I might also sell parts, or assemblies through possibly, this forum?

A basic wedge bot, complete, could cost around $300..., maybe less or more, depending on how complete the kit is

At the moment, I have a questimate of $350 for a basic wedge, with transmitter and receiver, everything you need except battery charger. The outer shell is 1 piece heat treated steel!!
So, 2 things....do you think that anyone would be interested? and 2--Maybe we could throw around some designs and tweak things..

Some of you have already built great wedges and horizontals, so maybe we could piece togther some of the best features?

Let me know what you think

Thanks

I'm not sure about the market elsewhere, but I can tell you that in Aus you would be catering for a market that doesn't exist...

There's probably only about 6 beetleweights on the entire continent at this stage Laughing

We do fight beetles, but they are a minority compared to the 150g and 30lb categories. And on the flip side, for around $300, you can build a budget 30lber for that kind of cash, as discussed here: http://robowars.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1874

My $300- $350 basic wedge bot includes everything ...transmitter, receiver , etc.

Our problem here is that we have no local arenas to fight anything larger than a 15 pounder (educational)

A 3 pound arena can be move and setup in no time whatsoever....

My personal opinion is that the 3lb beetle class is a winner, the price point is right, the physics are more analogous to the 30lb class, the robots are big enough that they're not like working on swiss watches, and the fights are almost as entertaining as a 30lb fight and far more entertaining than a 150g fight. I personally think that it's a category that we should focus on and help it grow, particularly given the dire need for new blood in the sport.

In NSW over the last few years we have fought beetles more often than 30lb, and probably about the same as 150g, but it's not as big in the other states iirc

I have a wedge design still in the design stages, mostly because I'm working on live waepon options. So far I have 3...a clamper, a lifter and a flipper.

I have a prototype horizontal undercutter that is 90% built...just needs weapon motor, esc and some Botbitz escs for the drive.

It drives very well at the moment with an old scorpion xl esc

I could put up pictures if anyone is interested in seeing and maybe throwing ideas around?

Almost - upload the JPEGs somewhere public and then use the IMG tag around the link to show the picture in-line in your message.

It's a feable first attempt at a self righting aid (as opposed to a hoop) It is a carbon fiber arrow shaft....

The bot is built and driving around, but to finish it, I need help from Botbitz and HK.

Once I see how it handles inverted, then I'll fine tune the antenna.....lol

The wedge has optional weapons, the first is a clamper (as in the pic). it can also rotate and comeout of the bottom of the bot, pissibly to clap while inverted, or maybe aid in righting itself....(I hope)
