On Mechanical Fleaweight

THE CONCEPT:

On a very basic level, this discussion concerns fleaweight combat robots which operate without electricity:







ARBITRARY DESIGN QUALIFIERS:


  • Weight: 75gm or less (fleaweight)
  • Safety: No chemical explosives, no toxic liquids
  • Runtime: minimum 3min constant expulsion

Allowing robots to start the match in an "operational" state has proven a good way to get the fight started.
Consider wearing heavy protective gloves - or triggering with a long stick.



CURRENT PROGRESS:

I built some spring-powered prototypes before flywheels proved a better solution. However, mounting a
flywheel is heavy and energy-consuming. Fortunately, flywheels are self-stabilising; so you can build a
responsive, programmable robotic shell out of little more than a spinning top. Basic design evaluation is
ongoing:
