brushless is making clicking noises

So went to test judge mentals brushless tonight (havent used it since 2012 nats) and its just making clicking noises and tries to spin forwards and backwards? its not the esc cause i plugged in another one and it sanded the tip of my finger smooth Embarassed I also opened it up and made sure it want full of iron filings ...so it spins smooth.

So could it be the wires leading into the motor and there connection?....this is the motor that was at one stage sucking its wires inside itself. Oh dear. Rolling Eyes

Yeah i think if you lose a phase connection it will jitter on the spot and not really get going, plus makes odd noises and/or overheat

That's right, its got to be an open circuit winding. Unless you have a spare motor, its probably time to work on avenger...

I also have a motor that looks the same but I suspect it is a lower kv. I put it in my to pack pile just in case it wan be of some use. I couldn't get it posted till Tuesday so no point expressing. It would get there a few hours before me. Angus' is the better option

Bot builders are nice, most would give their competitor a part or a hand fixing they need that they then use 10 minutes later to destroy your bot.

Hi all, can we make it 2 for 2 with this problem? http://www.robowars.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74&start=4755 . This SSR problem is driving me crazy and if I don't get the new plan working, Scissorhands might not make it to the event Sad. Any and all help greatly appreciated!

I keep saying it so I will give you a visual reminder. Lol look at them wires move.

What I would do....

So how much room you got looks like about 25mm?

Decase one of your modded TZ85as.Without case they are 12mm thick (11.8mm according to my calipers) . Get a piece of 3mm Ali maybe 100 x 60. Actually if you have the time get a 6mm piece and mill and 3mm recess in it the shape of a TZ85a. Tap some holes in the Ali and cut a garolite backing plate.

Cut and join the three output wires about 10mm away from the board. This goes to -ve wire on mag. Leave +ve wire on ESC the same and replace the GND wire wire a higher gauge. (Could potentially leave a short section in there as this will heat up and fail if shit gets bad)

Piss off the shitty thermal pad and get some thermal paste glue think Jaycar stocks it. Glue and fill the entire TZ85a to the ali. Fill the internals and the back so that no components can come loose. Finished packaged should end up < 20mm thick.

I can't say I have done this but if you see the wires moving and smoking in the above video that should give you some indication of the current a single TZ85a with all its FETs bridged can take.

If I had the time I could build it for you but not sure I will. Unless.... friday night sesh?

OK, I will give 'plan C' a go tomorrow. I can screw on a better heatsink than what the TZ85 comes with and I should have some thermal epoxy glue around here somewhere. The only real problem is rewiring the bot; all high current wiring will have to be replaced.

What do the SSRs currently do? Do they switch to GND or the HV side? I think a bench test without redoing the wiring for a start is the best.
