Winches - Drives, Lifters & Big ass motors

Hi Guys,

I am looking for some information on winches and looking to make a bit of a catalogue.

Where to buy Winches?
Does anyone know the cheapest place to get them in Aus including postage used to be ablt ot get the 2000lb ones off ebay for $70 now seems to be quite a bit more. I fond this but looking for anymore information.
http://www.crazysales.com.au/search/winch

What type?
I know we used the 2000lb winch in double dragon but I dont know how many other types there are if anyone knows or has pictures would be great.

Lifters
What is the best way to make it into a lifter and also the simplest?

Alternatives
Is there anyy?

Are you thinking of drives for a heavier weight class?

Well I am thinking of drives for 120lb & 220lb and also as lifters for feathers.

Avoid those ones in the plastic cases like the plague. Dumhed bought one and it was possibly the most horrifically engineered item ever to be seen Laughing

Can't say i've seen them elsewhere for cheap.

The linear actuator I use in my feather is fairly simple. It is 822 grams. You just need limit switches.

yeah it looks like its got its electrics on its arse... but that should be able to be unbolted Very Happy

the ones you used on double dragon had extra stages in the gear box …for feathers we want the others that are simpler i reckon Very Happy

I did a bit more of an ebay search.

Looks like you can get three types
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2000LBS-907KG-Electric-ATV-Winch-w-Remote-Control-/350882332587?pt=AU_Boat_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51b2377fab

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-Wireless-Electric-Winch-4000lbs-1814kg-Boat-4WD-ATV-Remote-Control-Free-AU-/131315124134?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e92fdc7a6

Not sure which is best.

I wonder if a hub motor would be a good idea. They claim: "We can customize 8 inch pneumatic tyre hub motor to what you need in your application".

You would have a simple solution that didn't have hubs that come loose or chains to derail.

I think they would have the same problem as smaller brushless motors; poor low speed control. You can fix that with a large reduction gearbox but that's not an option with a hub motor.

Winding shouldn't be a problem. Finding a decent controller for anything brushless perhaps more so. Although the kelly controller or some such large EV esc might do the trick. Definitely needs sensors.
