Hi Steve,

Thank you for your email.

Robot Wars at EB EXPO was a very popular demonstration display, designed directly from specifications supplied by the Robot Wars team.

All parties involved with the operational and safety components of the Robot Wars UK activation were satisfied and happy with the result. This includes Robot Wars UK, the venue, fire wardens, and safety officers.

Best of luck with your future roboteering.

Dunno if someone wants to pass this on to the UK guys.

Also this makes me very angry.

Steve

In that other thread weren't the "Robot Wars UK" people rather up in arms about it?

That sure as hell pisses me off. It was a total shambles which could have destroyed so many reputations. It's total bullshit how its being treated as even remotely okay.

So far as I know, the UK has the following groups involved in Combat Robots:

Fighting Robots Association
Robots Live
Robochallenge LTD
Robot Wars - Formerly Roaming Robots

To my knowledge, the event was entirely set up and run by Robot Wars and EB. If the event was run by any rules it was not too the FRA rulebook which supports and governs all combat robot groups in the UK.

Robot Wars must have chosen to run their own rules and ignore the basic safety guidelines used around the world ie: Polycarbonate walls, Steel inner wall, substantial roof to capture shrapnel, and go with an arena "designed directly from specifications supplied by the Robot Wars team."

EB EXPO personnel, the venue, and safety officers would have had no experience and would not have been in a position to make an informed decision about the required safety standards.

IMO, the Robot Wars team ignored the required safety measures to save money, and they mislead the EB EXPO venue. They were very lucky that nothing went wrong.

Cheap arena = expensive loss of credibility. The complete state of denial is what gets me; do they think we are all that stupid?

Cheap arena ~ Priceless Loss of Life!

I hope they answer for this in some way, else they will do it again. If we let them know we can see right through them, maybe they will zip up and play properly.

Well could also be ass covering admitting something is wrong would be bad. I just hope this causes someone at EB to ask questions.

Could we handle this a bit more subtlety? It would be nice if we don't sound like a bunch of stuck up wankers so we might get a chance to get invited next time.

I dunno, I sort of feel sending them a video of the india event and associated coverage and something along the lines of "this is why we use a real arena" might get the point across.

Not sure how a mor subtle approach would work.

Pretty sure this thread was already pretty close to being forgotten.
