Check out Badger, possibly the only successful FBS locally.

Also check out Xenophobia, which was an FBS hobbyweight before going to overhead spinner.

That looks like fun! What did you use for the crucible and the walls of the furnace?

walls of the furnace is mortar and sand (works but the sand keeps turning into glass) and the crucible is a piece of pipe with 10mm wall and a bit of plate 20mm thick welded to the bottom. the flowerpot smelter that someone linked the other day is where i got inspiration for this project. I have poured a round mould but it is full of porosity i need to get more of the dross out before I pour.

That was me Smile. I just wondered if you used the same plaster of Paris for the furnace; I wonder how it compares to mortar & sand?

i would say plaster of paris will hold up to the heat a lot better, but it will be very brittle and easy to chip. when I build my next one I will be using fireclay.
