Hi
Whats the best way to clean parts after you have tapped them and they are covered in fluid? I usually just wipe it off with a rag... but what to do if you are adding thread locker?

Isopropyl alcohol, acetone or maybe metho - any solvent that doesn't leave a residue. I squirt it in with a spray bottle to help flush out any chips hiding at the bottom, or you can pour in some solvent and then run a screw into the hole.

isopro^ But i blow the hole out with a compressor first (close your eyes!) which gets 90% of it out.

Is it just me, or is blowing compressed air into a threaded hole deafeningly loud? I still do it but its really not fun!

I put ear protection on when blowing one out. Also don't put your hand over the hole (I wanted to stop swarf spraying all over the nice clean lathe, it was a bad plan)

If the hole is large enough ~M5 I use a cotton bud, push it in with some degreaser or something first then "unscrew" it out to clean out gunked up threads. More of something when the thread has been around for a while and is caked in groad.

My favourite cleaning product is brake cleaner - available from auto parts shops.

It has enough pressure to blast gunk out of holes but is also a very nice quick drying solvent.

The brand name stuff is expensive, but often you can get the cheaper ones for a few bucks a can when it's on special.
