Still using it and still liking it but I suspect I am now one of few

As far as solidworks being the easiest I dont think you can really say that.
They are all pretty much the same. Its just what your used too. In fact solidworks is probably a more steep learning curve than others. Fusion 360 is meant to be more entry level as far as I can tell. It was free few years ago.
On the side note of M$ I think they are prolly less evil than apple/google/facebook these days. They are just starting to struggle. As far as subscription services go I would love to see Solidworks offered as a subscrption. Even adobe has gone that way. They really make it inaccesable to all but large companies. _________________ Steven Martin

Just thought I'd put it out there, a new CAD program called Onshape is currently in Beta. It's entirely run from your browser and they have an iOS app as well with android coming.
It's free for private use, you can import quite a few cad filetypes into it.
Might as well give it a go if you're looking for something for quick and dirty designs. It lags a bit for me so I doubt it's the best option for anything complicated. I quite like it though considering it's free.

Marto. apple can be as dirty as they like so long as my products keeps working perfectly as my mac has been for years and os updates remain free.
Microsoft reall fd up when they sat around watching android get massive then brought out shitty slow bug filled windows phones and then a desperate hybrid os "windows 8" that was them thinking they were untouchable for to long. To long have the overcharged for buggy software and sold overprice crap hardware.
Now the people have alternatives to chose from and aren't held hostage Microsoft seem to be trying to trap people into staying with them.
Yeh rhino 5 for mac outright is only $400 ish
i was sure solidworks was subscription. ill double check.
Well if you count the yearly fee of 5-10k for maintainence (new version) and support a subscription per seat. _________________ Steven Martin

Hey all,
So im finally learning CAD
Mainly i need to get panels for warning done and sent off so i can get it finished well in advance of next event
Im starting with sketchup so i can get this done quick and once its off being cut out will spend more time on finer details and solidworks and such
I seem to be having issues with the free version of sketchup in punching holes. The design is literally 6 panels all the same size/hole pattern, i have the holes marked and just need to punch them out so i am left with a panel with four holes through them then i can copy and paste that one panel, move things around, design wedges then email it to lazer cutting place
If anybody has any experience with sketchup and can help out with this i would be very grateful _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

Use the push/pull tool and push the hole in the direction you want and then type the thickness of the material in the box down the bottom. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

I have never used Sketchup myself, have you searched on Youtube? There are hundreds of tutorial videos so one of them should cover what you need. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

So finally got frame of warning and almost there with one of the wedges
Looking at process to get everything ready to send off for quotes etc with sketchup it looks like an absolute nightmare, gottta use other programs and mess around alot more than i like.
Mile and Jules/Phil/whoever else has used this is there a simpler way to go from mock up in auto cad to ready for lazorcutter.
Thanks
When the frames finally off getting cut ill spend alot of time learning rhino/solidworks as autocad bugs me a little _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics
