Received my drills recently and took them all apart.

Certainly better quality than kmart 12v drills. I'm sure this was mentioned before, but: All metal gears, and you can avoid using grubscrews by leaving the spring on tightly to lock the clutch.

I did unfortunately ruin one of my left hand screws, but 90% success rate is okay I guess.

Can't go wrong at the price they're at.

Assuming your drill motors follow the standard design, how are you going to mount them if the spring is still on the front of the motor?

The 18v kmarts have all metal gears. Theses ones are a bit tricky to mount as there is no flats on the gearbox. I sure they will work well though. Maybe you cold use hose clamps to lock em down?…

edit..what nick said.

A great way of mounting these would be a modified version of your 3D + aluminium mount. If the mount enclosed the front of the gearbox it would lock in the two tabs to stop the gearbox rotating.

Even easier would be to just print the whole gearbox mount from scratch that goes in the ali box section…..im still working on that….i have a working prototype …..it should be accurate enough….i'm going to do this for my spring flipper sportsman…so that will be a good battle test. Shocked

They are the type 2 motors in this thread. I will post the 3D files for the mounts when I've drawn them up.

As you both said my mount would be 3d printed version of miles&jules's box section mount. Don't have anything drawn up yet, the mount will enclose from the flaps to the end of the gearbox, holding the spring on and preventing rotation of the motor. Probably having long bolts going through the Al and flaps.

Another option I was considering was a version that the gearbox screws into using the big thread on the front, but that would require removal of the spring.

Miles&Jules, I am more and more interested in your printed gearbox shell as the extra shaft length it creates would help a lot in allowing the drive wheel to be supported on both sides, but I don't think my 3D printer could handle that, and that's a discussion for another thread!

The beard is no more! Shocked

But no worries. I will PM you the address.

Still got a lot of drills, but not sure how many exactly. 50?

I have about 20 Kmart 12v drills too. Not as good quality I think, though I have not stripped them completely. Maybe a Sportsman robot donation is in order...

Are there any Ozitos still available? I would be interested in purchasing some.
