Hoi Don. Did you have any measurements on those gearmotor housings you made out of ali?

Looking at doing something similar.

Also did you do a custom shaft for yours? I just pulled apart two gearboxes to look at doing this.

First one was a two stage. And after bailing on that second one was just normal one. Given the size of the gearbox I reckon I should be able to make it a fair bit more compact and easily mounted.

Did you just press fit the ring gear? and lathe off the stubs or what?

I used the standard shaft to save time.left the studs on also, and they were a semi press fit, that I used retaining compound on because out of the 6 I did only 2 or 3 were close to the same size so I averaged it out and only made one bore size different out of the five (I'm kinda lazy).I still need to weld on a strip of ally underneath for mounting.I will post pics and sizes tomorrow if that's not too late.but yeah they do end up about half the size of standard and if you moded of made a custom shaft they would end up quite a small neat package.

Well its too late to lathe anything tonight lol.

I set up the lathe today. Getting a lathe onto a stand with only one person is an interesting experience.

I am currently trying to degrease the parts with household products with limited success. So I can CAD up a design for them.
