Were these designed for drive or as a winch replacement and how much torque do you think they are good for? Is there any chance of scaling them up or increasing the single stage gearing a bit?

Both, the 12:1's were designed to be a more compact replacement for my DeWuts (17:1 with a 1250kv Dewalt, replaced by 12:1 and an 880kv motor). The 100:1 I designed was to replace the bulky winch setup / geared scooter motor setups I have used in the past. I'm not sure how much torque they can handle, I've just designed them on feel and aimed for mildly over kill. I can certainly scale them up into a bigger design and increase the ratios, but so far I've only designed them for a single bot which requires everything to be smaller (The next Farmboy should be ~20% smaller).

Had a quick 'test' part knocked up by a fab house in China for some quality checks and gauge of pricing.

Haven't had time to run the micrometers over it to check the inner parts where a 0.01mm tolerance was specified, but it looks acceptable by eye. Might have to rename this sportsmen to "Made in China".

That look several orders of magnitude better than the "Mr Wang" gearboxes. Call the bot Sun Tsu, much more relevant than Made in China Smile.

For the price and a one off that doesn't look half bad. Shipping would be 50% of the cost for sure and a one off in AUS prolly cheaper but something to keep in mind in future.
