Try it i reckon..ya might need some abs juice for it to stick if the bed doesn't get hot enough.

Glad to see you got stuck into your custom usable designs first off, and didn't go the usual first roll of crap off thingiverse he he.

The only item I want off Thingiverse is a better fan shroud for the hot end! I will give ABS a go and that Tualman Bridge nylon filament looks interesting as well. Any recommendations for good local suppliers?

ABS juice night screw the bed. I got some largish parts to print off mine if I used juice and really stuck it down. But I also cracked a glass mirror doing this and the quality was bit shitty.

Thanks for the advice, are you using the plastic print mat or bare aluminium with your own tape or glass? I just ordered some ABS and Nylon so I can try them out next week.

For local suppliers you can hit up Bilby3D in Mascot, they have a nice range of exotic materials in store - https://www.bilby3d.com.au/

Otherwise lots of other online sellers like 3DPrinterGear in Melbourne.

If you're chasing PLA that is stronger and higher temp resist than most definitely try the 3DFuel APLA from Simon in Adelaide http://www.3dfuel.com.au/

Thanks Angus! I just bought a roll of PolyMaker PolyMax after watching one of your earlier Maker's Muse videos. How does the 3DFuel compare to the PolyMax?

I think they're pretty much the same spec wise, about the same glass transition temp and both print really well. Very Happy

Good to know! I also got a roll of Polymaker Polycarbonate and a roll of Taulman 910 Nylon - if I can make them print reliably, they should make great non-structural parts or antweight frames.

What problems did you get with the polycarb? I was hoping it's high glass temperature would make a good hot-end fan guide.

Another 3D bot part:

The new ESC mount is on the left, with the Shapeways printed parts for comparison. The Shapeways parts are made with plenty of clearance as I can't check tolerances before paying and waiting two weeks. The home printed part has much less clearance as I can check it immediately and that means the part can have thicker walls without having large outside dimensions. The side opening for the sensor cable worked out particularly well, even without supports to bridge the overhang.

The nylon filament should arrive tomorrow and its said to be tougher than PLA so I will reprint the part tomorrow with 100% infill and give it a hammering to see how well it holds up.

Progress:

I tore myself away from the 3D printer to do some work in the shed. The new gearboxes for Mr Mangle need mounting holes drilled and this set-up with screws and a printed spacer at the front and screw-in transfer punches at the back should mark the new holes really accurately:

The titanium motor mounts arrived back from waterjetting today and fit well - this is the bottom mount:

The next thing is to clamp them to Decimator's frame and use the holes to drill the bisalloy; I hope the carbide drill bit is up to the job.

Looking good! Dare I ask if Decimator's coming over to the UK champs this year?

Probably not - without Glen's discount freight thu his work, it is insanely expensive to ship two bots and their support gear to the UK.

Decimator:

The lower titanium motor mount is drilled and fitted to the frame - the straight flute carbide drill went thru the Bisalloy like butter. The motor seems very secure and there will be 20 screws holding it in once the top mount is added:

The belt is too loose and I am going to add an adjustable tensioning idler pulley to get it tighter.
