Recommended First Robot Parts

Here is a list of cheap and cheerful parts that we recommend for your first robot. These are value for money and acceptable not necessarily the best you can buy.

Featherweight
Battery - Zippy 3000mah 4S - $23.84 (One time offer)
Transmitter - Hobbyking 6 channel transmitter/receivers
Wheels
Drive Motors - Kmart 12v drills
Drive Mounts
Radio
ESCs
Charger

Antweight
Transmitter - Hobbyking 6 channel transmitter/receivers with 3 channel receivers
ESCs - Cheap eBay ESCs

If you have other suggestions comment below.

I'd list the Hobbyking 6 channel transmitter/receivers (with the 3 channel receivers in the ants). Not the most feature packed but easy to sort mixing and fiddle with other settings as long as you get the programming cable.

These cheap eBay ESCs take a bloody long time to ship but seem to work ok in the ants, although I'm reluctant to push them above 7.4V or use them on bigger motors.

The Kmart 12v drills I'm planning on using on my featherweight are certainly a cheap option, but as I haven't actually built/fought with it yet I'm not sure whether they're worth listing.

If using a trigger controller. Hobbyking v v-tail mixer is a cheap and easy way to do tank style steering.

And cheap trigger controller trigger controller off ebay

I had a look into that Flysky controller after you showed it off last month Very Happy
While it doesn't support mixing out of the box, hacking it with a firmware update adds that and a heap of other features. A bit beyond most new builders (as well as the added cost of the flashing kit), but an interesting option.

Thats why I use those v tail mixers so simple to wire in. Not software mods.

Also recommended a different and cheaper controller.
