In RC wheels with a 17mm hex uptake you have a few 100 sizes to try.

I might look at just using the rubber tread stretched over my own hub - I never really trusted the screwed on bike tread. I still like the cast urethane tread - its far more work than just bolting on a Colson but has great grip in any size I want.

This is the sort of wheel I am looking at:

A hard plastic hub, then a spongy ring to provide some leveling and then a tough tread (with much less contouring). This type of design is common on skid-steer earth moving and hopefully resists sideways forces from ripping the outer layers off.

Mr Mangle comes good at last:

I lined up some other spinners for a whiteboard and turned up the weapon to 60% power. The result was throwing Pendulum 3/4 of the way across the arena and then bouncing Conker 3 off the arena roof - even more air time than the top flippers get Very Happy

My day just got even better Very Happy

After a slow start, Mr Mangle picked up not one but two trophies! I played a cunning strategy (smash all the flippers) in the Gladiator event and after several close calls, Mr Mangle out lasted Omega to get a win against 22 other bots! The battery was dangerously depleted and the weapon motor was smoking hot, but I had to quickly change the weapon belt and the battery to get right back in the arena for the Drum Off against 722, Drum Roll and Django.

It was an informal match with some restarts - the aim was to have fun until all but one bot was properly KOed. It was a bit of a blur but after I turned the weapon power up late in the match, I caught 722 and knocked out his power link to grab the Drum Off trophy.

Total damage: front hoop cut by Django, chunk of titanium removed by NST, four weapon belts partially melted, one dent in the top cover plate from Hatchet's axe, one bent front fork from being tossed out by Explosion and some scrapes in the beater from sending Conker into orbit.

Thanks to everyone who helped out, I had a fantastic time and will be back to defend those trophies. I used up a year's worth of adrenaline, which is currently being replaced by beer Wink

And Glen you HAVE to come back next year so we can sweep the awards!

Thanks Ellis! It took almost three days but I finally cracked the secret to winning in the UK - turn everything up to 11 and then hit the afterburner switch Laughing I will be back with more improvements and several bots next year - maybe I will turn to the dark side and build a flipper....

Build an electric one! They're the best type for sure. Razz

Did you happen to get any pics of T3? I managed to not take any at all with the top panel off before it got all scratched up.

Those gladiator fights are such chaos, love it! And hoorah for the winning. Definitely back next year. I'd like to see others come along to as its by far the best feather event out there. Might make a thread for it Smile

Mangle was exceptional as usual Nick, looking forward to seeing how you'll finally defeat your true nemesis though - the pit button!

Love the GIF Smile.

I predict a terrible accident during the testing day, where Mr mangle knocks the button loose, devours the tread, and spits out the hub so it can't trouble me again. Its a miracle that I didn't get caught on the button during the Gladiator.

the spark coming off the roof is epic.
Also are those floor plates not even held down?
