Its gona be pretty epic especially once its decked out with all your gear

-my only request- dont skimp on insulation - its a worthy $500 we had to rip the roof off our pool side robot carport thing to put that air / foil stuff on then put the roof back on- pain in the arse but essential

Play interrupted by rain:

After a long day's innings, we got almost all the roof on the shed except for the ridge capping. The rain is supposed to clear tomorrow and I hope to get the roof, back wall and maybe the doors installed.

@ Miles: The roof is too hot to touch by midday; the whole shed will be insulated & lined to it will be like an oven all summer!

Its 9 x 4.5 metres, not much larger than the old one; it just looks spacious due to the high roof and general emptiness Smile. The outside of the shed is mostly complete; we couldn't get the roller door fitted before my helper had to go home for a week but the shed is weather-proof enough to start using it.

For the next week, I am putting in insulation & lining to cut down on summer heat. Also looking at making my own LED lighting like the ones I did for the arena.

That's a given - I have saved up a huge box of power boards, more enough melt the fusebox when everything is switched on.

My big wiring dilemma at the moment is how to run power to the tables in the middle of the floor. The most practical way is to hang some retractable extension cords from the roof but that will look messy. The other option might be to run low profile cable under floor mats, which might not work so well. Option three is to only use cordless power tools Rolling Eyes

You could always camouflage the cord from the roof down to the table by going from a strategically placed roof light and a strategically placed dremel stand.

I just hung it down from above ghetto style.... with a nasty 4 point power pack hanging off the end ....i know you wont be doing that unsightliness Very Happy

Those style led lights you made for the arena will be epic in the workshop.

Everything is on wheels to make the most of the space; in place of a permanent work bench like I used to have, there will be two or three smaller carts that can be joined together or pushed out of the way. I was looking at retractable reels like this mounted in the roof:

All the reels I have found so far are freaking expensive at well over $100 so I'm searching for a DIY option.

Those mobile workbenches, I hope you have tought about 1 ultraheavy, or about anchorpoints in the floor to bolt one down. Otherwise, the jobs that require 1m+ levers or 3kg sledgehammers will become "interesting".

I know that my 300kg welding table isn't heavy enough to handle the forces involved straightening flipperarms or bending the stronger stuff.

I'm in luck there, as I have 4 M16 stainless steel anchorpoints in the middle of the workshop floor cast in the concrete.

That's a very good point that I had not considered. There will be a lighter duty version of your welding table that could be bolted down but it might not be smart to beat & bend things on it - I want it to stay as flat as possible for welding. The other tables will be 50mm square tube with a 25mm plywood top, which is nowhere near as solid as my old bench. Perhaps they can have some tabs to bolt down to floor anchors like your table.

Meanwhile, I thought up a low cost way to have retractable overhead power leads; testing the idea tomorrow...
