wheels

A question I've been wondering for a while now: How come nobody uses these wheels?

They're dirt cheap, locally available, made of metal and have a grippy rubber tyre. Ok, so they have a kind of crappy roller bearing which is a loose fit on a 1/2" shaft, but it should be pretty easy to machine a solid hub to put in there instead and lock hub, axle and wheel together with, say, a large roll pin.

Has this been tried long ago and found to be bad in some way?

Good question, I don't recall anyone trying those wheels before. They were probably just a bit more expensive, heavier and more work to adapt than the red wheels and were passed over for the easier option. If you want to put the time in to making a new hub, they should work just fine.

I used them in my original or in 2002.

But as Nick said the above reasons.
