Hi, with all this talk on ant weights (minus the "other" stuff ), is it possible to convert a mini rc tank into a simple ant weight. Today I bought one ($15), and it does all I want (spins on the spot and has a third channel for the infrared "gun" which may be convertable to a weapon channel). I think I may be able to mount it on a simple chassis and boast the power a little, then add larger moters, etc. I don't think your aloud to use cheap rc toys in the states for various reasons, but I don't know about here. It it worth building, you know, just for fun and for a few battles? Any tips on converting it into an ant weight will be most welcome. Thanks _________________ ( •_•)
My antweight is just a toy RC car I bought of Ebay for $10. I'm building a proper sozbot soon, just don't have the time or parts right now, but it is coming _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

US antweights are commonly based on R/C toys, although if you have an 'active weapon' many competitions will require FM radio gear at a minimum.
There were a series of 'BattleBots' R/C toys marketed in the US that have been very popular as antweight conversions. The drive train is typically stripped out, lightened, and patched into a small receiver and speed controller. _________________ - Mark Joerger

I found that those r/c "battle tanks" are really good, cheap bases for ant weights. They also have a third channel for the infrared "gun". Anyone know how to convert that into a weapon channel? _________________ ( •_•)
whats the voltage on the rc tank cause jaycar have some neat little 6v relays that u could use as a sort of a speed controller for higher voltge and bigger motors. by the way where did u get it?

However i did find that those chunky "happy dancing light cars" carry high power electronics and a decent drive system, not a bad starting point for a cheap beetle, my car was $15 with controler. _________________ ( •_•)
well i think ya did good with set of maccano and a tube of super glue but theres some half decent rc cars at the warehouse for $20.00 _________________ WHEN YOU GO TO COURT YOU'RE TRUSTING YOUR FATE TO TWELVE PEOPLE
