ah i see. BUt it looks like a good hit from basilisk or ahnialation or something would tear that stuff to shreds. Especially mounting your 200 dollar reciever and radio gear inside a small plastic box mounted inside nothing for protection. I wold have some thick aluminium around the box's to try and stop the spinners and a back up plan (a wedge or bashing plate).

Just my thoughts though. Love the concept.

The axe robot looks cool. Maybe a spike on a heavy arm would be better but the axe seems to work well.

DOnt ever think i am saying all this in a negative way also as sometimes it may sound like that but i really wish to see u fella's do well am just suggesting opinions.

i dont see a problem with scarifier, take a look at it, its so damn low no spinner will hit it anyway..

talking of scarifier love the look and power of it, a spiked head will blast through 3mm ali if you wanted it too..

give it a tesst on some thick polycarb for us! Very Happy

I aggree Glen Scarifier is sweet.

I was talking about mental though about spiners tearing it apart and box's being mounted with no armour etc etc.

That axe on scarifier though has some wicked force in it. It so needs a pick axe or purpose made haevy hammer with a spike. That would be nasty.

I hope you bring your new bots with you if you come to the big guns day on the 28/11. They are very cool.

I wonder if anyone can check my calculations for me. I won't write it up here but the equations are found on this web site, http://homepages.which.net/~paul.hills/AxeWeapons/AxeWeapons.html .
I used;
Inertia = 0.0613866
No load rpm of motor = 4480rpm = 2*pi*74.67 rad/sec
Stall torque of motor = 1400 oz.in = 9.8861726 Nm
Angle axe swings = 180 degrees

Feeding these into the equations got me 4.37 Kj of energy in the axe.

I didn't use the spread sheet as I don't have Excel.

How many other people spend their lunch breaks doing this sort of thing.

**edit**

I rechecked it myself as the energy seemed a bit high and I did make a mistake. Its actually 1.4 kj.

Is that a Micro Magmotor mounted on the front of Mental to power the flail? I noticed teh bell housing in the photos and then the video confirmed my instincts. But it looks to small to be a S28-150, but maybe a S15!

It is not a "Mag Motor" as I am not spending that much on a motor for a robot that is being built as cheaply as possible, nor is it a "Micro Mag Motor" as I have never heard of these before.
It is one of two motors given to us by Marshall. I have no further info on the motor than that.

Ok. I've gone back to have a look at this pic with the "Micro Mag Motor" and I think I can see where the confusion is.
The motor is held onto the steel braketing by two hose-clamps with anti-static rubber matting (off-cuts from work) between the motor and the clamps. In the photo this looks a little like the rear of a Mag Motor (or an NPC motor or an Astroflight). Don't get excited it is not a brand-named motor.

Well with a little help from the man who knows everything about axe weapons, John Reid, I now know the exact gearing needed to pull every bit out of the EV into the axe. The equation is actually simpler then the ones on that web-site. I'm curently using a 4:1 reduction but the ideal reduction for this setup would be 21.875:1, but I'm running at 70% effecency at the moment. I deffently don't have the weight to di this with chains, nor do I have the time to do it before Robowars 2, so this'll be something to do next year. I still need to work out the exact shape of the snail cam.

Well Scarifier was practically rebuilt this weekend. Changes include:
10 main bulk head rebuilt using grey polycarb instead of chopping boards to reduce weight.
New base plate made out of polycarb instead of wood.
Bigger wheels, now 150mm.
Whole system now running 24V battle packs, instead of a split 12V/24V for drive and weapon.
Hammer added because "it was there".
IFI Victor 883's added to the drive.
Dual Team Delta switch and 24V Team Whyachi selonoids added to fire the weapon.

The end result = a short video.

Scarifier looks great. It seems to drive easily and should be able to aim the weapon at it's opponent with the drive wheels being so far forward. You should put on a good show with it.

That looks really great there fella's

Nice work.

One thing i suggest is to bring back the axe or to have a purpose made heavy pick axe or something with a pointed nasty end to it.

Hammers r boring. Penetrating axe's r better.
