Mistakes are part of the learning, and you will learn heaps s@#t loads if you do complete a bot. So keep up the good work...

Congratulations on getting your Robot together and (nearly) driving !

In recognition of your efforts as a aspiring your roboteer, I have a *free* gift for you that should help stretch your budget a bit further.

A Triton-1 Battery Charger. Ideal for NiCd, NiMh, Lipo and SLA Batteries

Its very similair to the Triton-2 which is here.
http://www.electrifly.com/chargers/gpmm3153.html
Just doesnt have the fancy blue backlight and will charge at 5amps (not 7, like the 2), but for NiCads (especially drill nicads), anything over 3 or 4 is pushing them too hard anyway.

Note you will need a hi-current (~8 amps) source of 12v power to run it - they are designed to run off a cars battery. You can modify a PC power supply (as discussed elsewhere on this forum).

It wont charge LiFe batteries (A123 type) which is what I use now, so they are surplus to requirements and gathering dust.. Id much prefer to see them in use helping out newcomers.

Yes, Im serious.. I have 2 more of the Triton-1s if any other rookies out there running Nicads want to put their hands up for a freebie.

Send me a private message with your address and I'll post it to you free, or else you can pick it up from Sidetracked on arrangement if you prefer.

If you don't have a power supply then I have a spare pc power supply you can have for free to hack and make work, or I could do it for you if you arn't comfortable messing with something that runs on mains power.

I got a jolt recently from one of these too - those damn huge capacitors in them stay charged for ages after you disconnect the mains power Smile

I decided to get my backside off my chair and actually do some work on the bot...

Brought the cardboard out and started to make a model 4 bar flipper based on some calculations made on the 4 bar flipper calculator. (Heres the 'settings' i used, or more like the dimensions i used)

I will post a pic of the cardboard flipper when i am done making it.
Do you guys think that the travel is big enough to accomodate the 160mm stroke ram if i attach the front in this matter?
*Not To Scale...
I dont think that the first one would work so the second one.

Thats all for now Smile

I just recieved the package from Aaron and again... THANKS!!!! now all i have to do is, either make a valve to screw onto the top or find one that will fit perfectly on top. The rams are beautiful too aaron Smile

EDIT: one thing i found out is that, the thread and size of the fire extinguisher is the exact same as the back thread of one of the rams... And after throughly checking the dimensions, i felt like i should see if it threads on. And guess what! It was a perfect fit! now all i have to do is find the size of that rams thread...

EDIT2: Just went to bunnings to see if there is ANY useful fittings that i could use... Turns out that the extinguishers fitting size is not sold at bunnings Sad Now i either have to go to like a gas equipment guy and ask them about it or make my own...)

Does anyone have the pattern for the front motor mount (the d shape thing) so i can use the drill hacking 101 tut as a test rig and use motor mounts as the mounting in the bot (still undecided- going to see witch one will save space and weight)

Hey guys. Ive just finished the *crappy* cardboard model and the first thing i realised is... the back linkage needs to be bigger.
I had no things for the linages to pivot around so i used pencils Twisted Evil

and extended

Closeup on the front ( the front linage is huge and barely moves because of the back linkage[prolly made holes and sizes too big and far])

Extended

Do you guys have any comments or improvements to be made?
And 1 thing... with this design... i dont think that i can incorporate my huge ram.
