yeah i am, but i replaced the 9v battery powering the multi meter on the other hand and started to get a decent reading..

the 600mah Nicads really give it a nice power bost and give out the right amount of current, woohoo. at least thats one problem bowled over.

right-o i got the reading now, after i made a nice jig from gaffa tape.

1.62A all through the spin up. basically i think the motor has so much power it just instantly spins up to full speed and when it gets to about 70% speed judging by the sound, it seems like the belt gets enough grip on the pulley at that speed or something, the amps go up to about 2.2A then it spins up to full speed and goes back to 1.6A.

its about the 9th spin up and its spun about 3 minutes now and the little AA pack is going strong. ack ack!

took it to jeffs again today, hacked away at a dead motor and another one of those frogs which was wasted.

but cooler still was that wayde lent us a new clamp collar for the weapon which is tons smaller, lighter and a much tighter fit after the old one fell off and the disk danced away bey blade style lol.

with the new collar it also spins much faster and smoother, thanks waddle.

p.s. scramjets and saysoz weapon do awesome bayblade impressions Laughing

okays i finally got the 10 cell AA battery mounts. there all done but the batteries themselves are finally starting to dip in voltage. so i have to wait for my charger to get here before i can recharge them.

i also used a tiny file to rough up the pulleys. they where really really smooth so i figured they could use a little more friction. the spin up is quite a bit faster now as well.

and im thinking of having a lifter on the back that i hacked from a dead frog (the toy kind Wink )

aah, I have your charger!

I was meaning to drop round to Jeff's sooner so I could take his stuff back, along with your charger, but I've been flat out ever since getting back!

Remind me to bring it asap Smile

boredom is setting in! ohhh no. so its been flushed out of my head with a big build session on beta max.

ive cut out some new, new teeth that just crap all over the old ones quite frankly. this time instead of 4mm steel thats 97mm long (the disk is about 90mm diameter i think.) its a 6mm thick hunk of steel thats around about 140mm long. so it sticks way further out and should hit harder due to the higher weight and size of the piece.

oh yeah and it should grab things a whole lot better, especially with the more aggressive rake of the teeth.

i also want to see if i can make myself a flat belt pulley or two, so i can use the big wide turntable belts, because the little V-belts just dont get enough grab on the pulleys (anyone else got a solution??) and if i tighten them up so they do, the belts just break.

oh yeah and i cut all the teeth out of the 6mm steel plate with a hacksaw, woo for me Razz

testing time! i got the new castor legs done, so i did a bit of scary scary testing.

the new legs basically are further back then the old ones, but they bent into an L shape and extent under the disk, to give it more support and stop it tipping over because its so heavy.

the spinup to top speed is about 3 seconds longer, but deadly speed still takes about the same amount of time. the balance is actually better than the other bar, it really vibrates like a massage machine but its better than the old version which just shook like an exploding washing machine.

i nearly crapped my pants when i stood in front of it and bowled an empty drill case into its path, the thing EXPLODED into fragments and went all over the place, and as murphys law dictates came back at me, which hurt like hell (arent i safe lol) so needless to say ill be conducting all tests via RC now Laughing

cant wait to see it hit something 1kg in weight. now ill be getting that one on video for sure.

photo time

http://robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=534

in the new photo you can see the brand new collar shaft, which has meant i can get rid of the old bigger one that wasnt centered, a piece of keystock that was wedged into it, and a nut that went underneath that.

so i guess i hit 3 birds with one stone in that case!!

the biggest and most significant modification by far however is the new teeth. this monster item is cut from a single piece of 6mm steel, and it sticks out about 16mm i think last i measured it from either side of the disk. thats up from the 5mm or so from last time.

now that its all balanced i can get on with cutting the edge into the teeth. will be fierce i can tell you now

dang, the blade fell off again.

looks like the thread inside the collar has stripped out and just slid off. so im going to use the new and old one together and file flats on the shaft.

also the belt keeps slipping and just isnt up to the job. so im going to get some turntable belts that are really wide, and use a file to turn a new pulley for the weapon (out of the old pulley) and see if i can find a big wide pulley for the motor. or failing that ill buy some of that micro chain from jaycar.

the new teeth arent really as impressive today, but i think thats on account of the crappy belt.

isnt it odd how you feel like doing tons of stuff when its cold??

well i did something on everyrobot today. not alot of progress on this one but some progress is better than none.

i give my new ear muffs a working out ($3 yeah) along with the bench grinder and put a nice razor sharp edge on the tooth. you could probably slash your skin if you ran it across it. safety gaurds needed!

less exciting however is that i made up a new collar to hold the weapon on, but this one also stripped.. the weapon itself is just too heavy and pulls the whole assembly off.

so all i can say is that its a terrible design and has to be changed. how? well it needs the weapon system turned upside down so that the weight of the weapon is acting down, and there wont be such a massive load on the collar.

so its either, turning the weapon upside down, which will mean its too high, or making a spinning shell/overhead bar.

a shell would be nice, i mean it wont be hard to integrate a shell onto the existing weapon setup. lots of things to try and so little time..
