run your ram in spec,
performance gains from increasing the bus speed of ram is next to nothing.
latency is the biggest issue for ram access in most applications.

Thats what i intend on doing running it at 800mhz as i dont want to oc the ram just the cpu.

As i dont understand how the ram multi works i didnt know if bye doing that i was making the cpu faster but keeping the ram down meaning the ram cant keep up with the cpu but im guessing it dose not work like that?

you have the FSB
its multiplied by X for the CPU and Y for the ram
set X and Y to your liking

you want as little paste as possible
its nowhere near as good a conductor as aluminium.
It should be just thick enough to take out any lumps and bumps in the surfaces.

anyone got a good recommendation for a free defragmentor. the stock vista one takes at least half a day to get the job done Shocked surely it cant take that long?

old xp defrag used to take an hour or two at worst.

the hdd in your laptop is like 10x bigger than the one on your old PC
it'll take longer to defrag.
NTFS is not too bad, Its probably not worth defragging your PC too often and make *sure* your not using it while its running.
Just let it run overnight and close everything down before you do.

It depends how bad it is to start with as well.
If you do it all the time it'll be better than if you run it once a year.

I use to set my XP computer to defrag every night at 2am, batch script told it to defrag each drive 5 times, clear out the temp folders and recycle bin. After the first few nights, my drive would defrag in under 15 seconds.

Another reason why Ubuntu is brilliant, no defragging required! Smile
