Delerium - Team Dyrodium - NSW - Featherweight

Specs:
Drive: 12v drill motors at 19.2v
Battery: 19.2v of 3600's
Weapon: Huge undercutting disk, 465mm tip to tip, made from 8mm thick bisalloy 500. 1" shaft and disk mounted on a custom 7075 pulley with recess to hold and bolt it in place.
Weapon motor: EV car fan motors, or equivelent.
Armour: Frame made from aluminium and UHMW, hardox rear armour and stainless sheeting for front covers.

Comments: Invertable!!! Razz (in theory anyway...)

Will get into it this holidays now that exams are almost over. The beauty of the design is it looks cool but is very simple, I can make 90% on my own with tools I have. Very Happy

The original urethane has not adhered to the hubs at all well and can easily be cut off (builders with undercutters DID NOT hear that bit, OK?)
hehe...

Went to Pick N Payless with Grassy today and got a nice hoard of fan motors. We must have pledged a good case because the guy let us have 5 motors for $30! That's cheapest since our huge group buy!
I got two nichi rah motors for snak masheen, and whilst I couldn't find another fan EV for a spare, I did find this monster:

Check out the cooling port at the back! Shocked Its the size of a short magmotor and seems to spin like crazy. Maybe I could forgo total invertability and run this monster in delerium... Twisted Evil

Hmmm...
Delerium has been put on hold till further notice. It appears the custom pulley that forms a critical part of its weapon system (and why it was so easy to construct) may have been lost in the mail... $60 down the drain. Evil or Very Mad
Dalton offered to make a new one if it is lost, but there is a chance it was sent by surface as he got it sent through his mums work. But even if it is still on its way, i'm not going to have it done for barrage anyway! I've been inspired by Mikes FBS ideas and i've always wanted one, just haven't been able to sort out the shell problem. A moment of inspiration came to me on our holiday, followed by hours of trying to cad it (it failed). So anyway, here's a basic idea of the concept... featherweight 3A anyone?

Same basic components as delerium, but I might use a kang style nichi rah fan motor as they're slightly cheaper than ev's and just as powerful. I've got all the weapon components... almost. the weapon pulley will need major tweaking. The weapon *rotor* would be 10mm bis 500, which i've read about CAN be bent, but needs a fairly large bend radius, which shouldn't be a real problem for it, I don't want a sharp angle like in the cad anyway, but rhino refused to let me bend it!
Sad
I'll try to get in contact with some places that bis recommended to see how much that bending (might get them to tap the top holes too) would cost.

The CAD looks very cool but there might be problems: One of the first bars I had on Jolt was shaped like your shell with bent down tips. It was made from 10 or 12mm by 60mm mild steel and it distorted radically around the bend on the first big hit. it also tended to flip over on nearly every impact. Bisalloy is much tougher than mild steel, but you could still have problems flipping.

Yeah the flipping could be an issue, it's plagued all those cage spinner designs. The main problem is the shell, that robot design can be even smaller if it had a hockypuck shell, but actually making one is just... annoyingly hard! Sad

Yr 12 makes everything seem to need to be done fast and stressfully. Sad
I'll just do the undercutter, Aaron had ideas that can build around the pulley problem... Smile

Alright, the POP for delerium is getting formed now that Snak Masheen is out of the way...

I have the 1" shaft, shaft collars, ali for some of the frame (NO WELDING) and my funky graphite thrust washers. What's needed are the timing pulleys, more frame material and a needle bearing. I've gone off bushings they kinda suck.
Just a few questions regarding timing belts, what's the best size for weapons that won't explode but still be pretty compact? Smile
