The 0.5" wide L (for light) size is used in many US bots - its about the same size & thicknes as that multi-groove belt that Andrew uses on Orbit. If you can fit it in, using a 0.75" belt would not weigh much more and would give you a good safety margin.

Sad I don't know if I can find a timing pulley of that type to fit an 8mm shaft!
Still looking...

OK, So the driven pulley is going on the EV type motor? how many teeth and what material would you like it - I may be able to get something in an order from the US later this week. Some places sell the pulleys with no bore at all, so you can drill it out to any size you want. How long is the shaft on the motor? You generally need the shaft to go most of the way through the pulley for it to be a strong & stable connection.

Are you ordering it from anywhere I know so I can grab a part number? Like Mc master?
That EV has a very short shaft yes but I'll probably be getting some proper EV's so shaft length is no problem. Smile
I'll try to get all the exact details regardless.

McMaster don't have enough range (450,000 parts aren't enough for me any more Laughing). I am going to give these guys a tryout: http://www.sdp-si.com/ They do a far wider range of timing pulleys in many materials, plus their fair-loc hub looks better than a set-screw & cheaper than a Trantorque.

Yeah, I'm using SDP-SI for my timing belts and stuff for Influenza. They have a massive range and even provide CAD files of the parts Razz

Do you order through the Australian distributer, or an American gift giving relative?

My timing pulleys for Eleanor were from SDP-SI, I just ordered straight from them online.

There is an Australian distributor Shocked? I usually order direct from the States as most local suppliers are so hopeless - it would be great to have a local place with stock though.

I'd avoid a timing belt if you can, go for something that can slip to take some of the load off things. Don't forget a belt tensioner.

And don't be hating on welding ;-P
heck most of yours bent the plate they were attached to in half before breaking, do that with a bolt.

...and once again I get dissapointed Sad. Minibearings is reseller only and I would have to go to SKF or online at smallparts, who are very expensive and have a crap web site. I'll join Trent in the SDP online store; it's probably cheaper and very likely faster.

Small Parts = Mini Bearings, as long as the parts are in stock and you order before ~12 there here the next day. They are expensive, yeah, but small quantities always are. Oh, and something I found kind of interesting, if you have previously ordered stuff from Small Parts and you buy something direct through SDP/SI, Small Parts send you a letter asking why you ordered direct, and pointing out how you would have saved time and money buying locally lol.

BTW, Angus, with the timing belts, I run 15mm wide 5mm pitch HTD's and find them massive overkill (You could go the 9mm easy). Small parts keep 20 and 17 tooth 8mm bore pulleys in stock. Gates Polygrip belts and pulleys are supposed to be even better than HTD strength wise, bit more expensive though.
For Belts, Rydell (http://www.rydell.com.au/) are right next door to Pick and Payless and have pretty much any type / size you can think of. Prices aren't too bad and they will sell to anyone.

A 6A35M048NF1008 T5 (5mm) 48 Aluminum Alloy 10.00 8.00 No Flange / With Hub 76.55 75.55 21.00 50.00

What about these two? 30:48 reduction is a bit odd but they both fit well and I'll need the larger one in order for weapon bolts and the needle bearing.

Also for bearings was thinking of using roller bearings:
S99NH2-BN3232 1 / 1.25 1" Hardened Steel 1.2495 / 1.2505" S99RH2-BNR2432A 1.0000" 0.0005" 5600 10200 10000

EDIT:
Also was doing some undercutter research, looking at some various undercutter bots. I had a look at buster but quickly gave up! Shocked

Truncation: It seems these spinners have less supports than I had imagined... Maybe a solid 1" shaft is a little overkill! Laughing

Was also just looking at relic's blade setup... they use bushings! Shocked maybeh they're not all bad...

Bushings work fine as long as they are treated right - what real problems did yours have (other than getting smashed by Orbit)? Andrew had problems due to running them dry and letting them get all scratched up - not really the bearing's fault Wink
