Ordered two Daptors today for charging the A123 cells.
Just scored 20 A123 Cells for $160 USD

All of these items are being shipped to my US relative who will then send them to me as a "Gift" Cool In a few weeks, I expect to see 20 x A123 cells (Maybe 30) and two Daptors arrive in box from the US of A.... Pinching a lot of cardboard from work today to start on the 1:1 scale models on the robots design. Will order my spur gears from minibearings.com.au next pay too. Need them before I send the 400 x 100 x 25 slab of aluminium off to Team Whyachi for CNC milling.

Hoozah. Found an engineering place that will be able to supply some parts for the weapon and will also provide advice with the design Smile

I don't think I've been this excited about building a robot before Shocked

Ah, Excellent. Will jump on MSN now and try to catch them... I'll have to see what is cheaper, sending them in one big box "risking a customs invasion" or many little packages Confused

Bigger boxes seem to take longer - I have had small packages turn up almost as fast as DHL, for 1/10 the cost. Get small expensive things shipped seperately.

The robot is made out of 3.2mm Hardox 450, the block of Aluminium is for an intricate part of the weapon. I'm going to get Team Whyachi to make the part simply because you cannot buy this part, nor do I trust anyone else to build this part (I need a lot of precision this part). The first prototype will be scaled further if it proves successful. Using Dewalts as the drive motors, even if the weapon fails, I don't think it will be boring....

I've decided I've had enough fun just competing at events and making up numbers, this time I'm looking at making a winning robot, so things are being looked at a lot more in depth then my usual, "It works, it'll be right" take on things. Also stepping up and trying something new, so treading into unchartered waters requires that bit more care, hence the engineering company, Ajax and Andrew all helping me with parts of the design, that I don't have enough knowledge about.

It probably won't be ready till the end of the year, but I'm not going to rush it for the sake of competing, I can always bore you all a bit more with a rebuilt Schmackhed, which was successful in being a simple, reliable robot.

Anyway, in time, y'all see..... Wink

Good and bad day.....

The Good:

Spoke with the lead engineer at the engineering place. He said the concept should work, there are a few areas that it will have to be fixed up to make it work efficiently, but none the less, it should work Smile Considering the limited space and weight, I was happy to hear that it would actually work Very Happy I'll be revamping it a bit in SW2007 tonight as he advised to strengthen up and change a few small things to get that efficiency up.

The Bad:

The expensive piece of $60 stainless i bought, isn't going to survive Sad Too much energy involved and that grade isn't going to handle it. So it's either find a better grade or use more of it (No what I want to do!). I think I'm also going to need a bigger weapon motor... Brushless would be nice, but expensive.... Finding a brushless that works decently at 18v and gives a good 5000-8000rpm @ 1Kw would be the hard part.

Well, back to the drawing board, glad I didn't send some of the materials off to Whyachi after all Razz

the 3y style neumotors should do that, the Kvs on them are pretty low and et al with the hackers.
