It's a spinner that rotates a grenade until it explodes Shocked

Bit like a kamikaze spinner but it doesn’t even succeed in taking its opponent out. Smile

This is the best two examples of a grenade spinner I could find:

TapOut, Lightweight...

ICEWave, Middleweight....

Nice to see my old ev put to good use! Razz
I'm guessing you're not going to direct drive that ev... even if it is going to blow itself up... Laughing

There was a plan for direct drive, but the layout is so much more efficient with the motor offset. Oh, and the setup is a lot more robust with a belt drive Smile.

I haven't seen other shell spinners close up, but I would presume that i need bearings at the top axis and at the bottom to prevent the axle from snapping when the shell gets hit?

id think youd be way better off having a huge stub axle that bolts or welds into the base then make a big hub with a bearing or two in it that can bolt onto the shell. at least if it twists it can still run Smile

Prancing Queen started off using pneumatic wheel hubs for the dome bearings.
http://www.robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=607
But then changed to using trailer wheel bearings instead.
http://www.robowars.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=663

They only reason for the change was to make the robot shorter. The hub and bearings was the only part never to break on Prancing Queen.
Both versions are still sitting on the shelf if you want some pictures.

The plan was to use some bicycle hubs to support the inner frame. Amazingly the hub is as wide as the batteries are tall, (on their side), and as high as the ev warrior.

On the center hub will be attached to the base, while the axle will be able to spin free. At the top of the hub will be another piece of uhmwpe. The uhmwpe will be supported by other bolts. At the top of the center axle, above the second piece of uhmwpe, will be the pulley from the motor, which will be attached to the shell somehow.

Since the axle is really thin Shocked (8mm), I was planning on using some ball transfer bearings at the edges of the base piece of uhmwpe. Then I looked up some prices for the ball transfers. I would need at least 4. The cheapest ones are $15 a piece, and I wouldn't like to use them because they are too small. The ones that I like are $45 Shocked .

Still, I think that some thrust bearings mounted in the base, which spin with the inside of the shell will prevent any large leverage forces from bending the center axle.

That is my hope Very Happy , I just can't seem to find the time at the moment, I have assignments coming out my ears.

Check out the beefed up BMX freestyle bikes, a lot of the newer designs run a large 18mm axle on the rear to support stunt pegs and schtuff.

For your situation, I think the Kerison's Wheel Hub is probably gonna be cheapest and most effective without needing special tools Smile
