Team Kronos Bots

Kronos Bots

First drive of Weasel today, it’s the Lightweight bigger brother to Mouse and Rat.

It’s the lightweight Idea I worked out back when team Australia was designing a contender for Robo games and I got a move on with him when Daniel made noises about going to Robo games.

The inner drive mechanism is almost done and I have a few ideas for different outer shells.

All up weight of the drive assembly is only 13.95kg with NiCads.300Watt scooters chain drive 4 wheel.

The other new Kronos bot that I made some progress on this weekend is Badger a FBS.

The first Kronos bot to have an active weapon. Shocked

We are hoping to have it sorted for Battelshed for Matt to drive.

It consists of magna window motors for drive running of a Scorpion XL with one of Brett’s Pic switches switching the SSR powering the 300Watt scooter motor spinning a shell made from my old favorite car LPG bottle.

And yes it has M1 battery pack.

The shell is twice as thick and the bot is smaller than it was going to be after a partial re design after I got my hands on Trent’s M1’s. Very Happy

Lucky I stumbled across this before I ended up having issues with Badger.

And yes it runs with the Hi voltage jumper cut and a spectrum.

Thinking the BEC in the Scorpion XL is a bit marginal, had to put an RX battery in Badger to get him to work.

Just checked out Badger, after a big hit with Orbit in the rumble he just stopped. Sad

Obvious external damage is a twisted tooth where Orbit connected; opening him up and there is a piece missing from the stinted sprocket on the weapon motor so I suspect the chain that was getting a bit stretched tried to come off, jammed and snapped the sprocket.

The drives stopped too at the time so I just turned the TX off but they work fine now so maybe the voltage dropped when the chain jammed up?

The other problem that stopped the weapon in a couple of the earlier rounds turned out to be one of the pins in the MOLEX connector hadn’t locked in place properly and had moved out producing an intermittent open circuit.

Another problem was the drive wheels breaking, the 90 cent wheels will get upgraded to the $4 ones. Smile

There was a slight stability issue but I am reasonably confident that I can improve that.
The self-righting mechanism worked well anyhow. Very Happy

All in all I was very happy considering he was brand new and I was still thrashing to get him together on the Friday before we drove up.

Specks are.
Weapon motor is a 300-watt scooter motor, Jaycar SSR, Scorpion XL , team delta RCE200X switch , 6 cell M1 pack, Drives are magna window motors, 1.6mm stainless gas bottle shell.

Badger returnz! Very Happy
New frame looks awesome. Laughing Wonder if it will spend more time *bouncing* than driving this round.

Apart from a few minor details the frame is unchanged, must be the flat black the panel beater at work applied for me.
There must be some fringe benefits to keep me going in to work. Smile

The main upgrade is a pair of cholson drives wheels as the white Bunings ones kept breaking for some reason.

The other upgrade I am contemplating is an extra voltage regulator to act as battery eliminator for the RX, team delta switch and SSR.
Space is tight inside Badger and I wont to put more padding around the batteries.

Yes the shell needs work. The stainless one at Battelshed was very rushed and had a bit of a dynamic balance problem that limited the maximum spin speed.

I would like to use the 3mm carbon steel shell if I can get it in the weight limit, as we all know what happens to the 1.6 stainless sooner or later.

I wont to build a test rig for setting the shells up on.

Yes that was a big hit with Orbit and my drive in the rumble ended early, just proves vertical against horizontal is short and violent. Smile

The Stainless Steel Rat is ready to rumble.

Dave Kronos will be at the controllers.

Dave has also provided a interesting selection of pre loved consumer durables, ranging from a selection of video cameras and a karaoke machine to a rather tough looking McDonalds monitor.

He is even brining a vacume cleaner especially for IG.

Badger is all together again after Orbit’s big hit knocked him rotten. Smile

Wheels are upgraded and the shell is balanced a bit better than it was.

Rat was the other surprise in making it onto the top 8 first days. Smile

He actually got in the finals. Shocked

We decided to bring him along to help with the numbers not expecting any problems but when I gave him a quick test before throwing him into the back of the car he glitches real bad.

Finished up swapping out the very old IBC for My trouble prone Sidewinder.

Of cores it didn’t fit and I had to cut and weld in a new bracket.

Rat’s big upgrade was a pair of Win Force 4000mAh 15C 3 cell Li-Po batteries.
Cheap flee bay experiment.

Bad idea, 2 cells collapsed when a drill gearbox started to get tight as one of the pins drifted out.

Think that happened in the rumble with Tim driving.

Rats other drama was when Aaron’s bot had a problem in the arena, no one wanted to try and grab it so Rat went in to slow MBX down a bit. Rat took a big hit that we thought killed the BR6000.

Just a co incidence that Tim was driving again. Smile

But I have just tested the BR6000 with a battery and servoes and it as in the old one we swaped out works fine.

The Sidewinder is acting weird and I have had no success calibtating it, perhaps the LiPo’s playing up upset it?

Think I better get some sleep. Got to go to work tomorrow.

Oh yes the other thing was we took the tail fins of Rat so he doesn’t get flipped as easy and he fought on of the VD’s.

Missed his chance at Scissor hands this time, forfit from Scissorhand.

Got knocked out in the final by King Cobra, He actually fliped Rat. Never heard a crowd cheer a wedge fight like that before. Very Happy

Might be time to think about aome form on self righting mechanism for Rat. And a bit higher voltage.
