Not really not sure what to do with that either. I need more time and less procrastination.

Robot update pre Vivid.

DoolSaw has been revived. Direct drive saw seems to be going OK. Its pretty dodgy but should make some sparks. I also made some wheel additions for flippers. So it can drive inverted. Saw probably won't work but will still let me move.

I also welded in all the bolts into the bot makes things much easier.

The two Vivid bots still need a few mods after their TV appearances .

TODO List
Program Radio for Dool Saw
Program Harbour Bot Radio
Add LEDs on Bots
Replace Bridge Bot Battery
Screws for wheels on DoolSaw
Charge DoolSaw and HarbourBot
Pack tools

Vivid Event Report

Doolsaw
Drove pretty well and saw worked well but in the first fight think I lost ESC and drive motor. Didn't bother repairing it as I had enough on my plate.

Vivid Bots
Seemed pretty popular with the crowd and kept working right up until the end. Lost one wheel on the Opera House and the threaded rod lifter on the bridge but think it proved the point that big demo bots which are a bit stupid can definitely keep the crowd entertained in the downtime.

Next event will probably be Nationals not sure what bots to bring. Depends if it will still be Feather and Antweight or if it will be Feather and Sportsman.

Road to Nationals

So its that time of year again. The time to build or rebuild for the biggest comp. This year I am hoping that I can do less organisation and actually build something to compete properly. (This would be the first time in about 5yrs.) I also think Angus and Stacey did a very good job organising from the list and times so if we can replicate this again it should be fine..... and given this is 4th year we should have most things down.

As far as attending. I have decided that I will be driving up. With the gear and two of us it will be simpler and easier. Have booked the Metro same as Nick. The one Glen stayed at was far more expensive.

The Robots
I would like to enter two robots. A sportsman and a competitve featherweight.

For the sportsman I think another attempt at restoring DoolSaw is on the cards with the new BotBitz gearboxes and some new TZ85as instead of the old version of the 30As which seem a little disgruntled. The weapon might need a bit of tweaking few mods and spare blades. But a saw is always good for crowd. Doesn't do much but make sparks. Also needs a bit of coverage on the back of the bot where the switch and weapon ESC is so will use some cutting board for that.

What robot for the featherweight is slightly more problematic. I have a few ideas for making a new one but time and money is an issue.

If I do make a new bot it would be a spinner of some description. Ring, drum, verticle, melty still to be determined.

The other option is to revive Naked Turtle. It was by far my most succesful robot and proved rather reliable, main failures were due to it constantly being patched to stay working. I am thinking the old parts could simply be bolted into a new shell with a new arm.

The Other
As always there is a bunch of other stuff I am working on, on the side, like my PhD but of more interest to you guys is the WifiRX, upgrades to 10A ESCs to make them compatible to the prog box, some initial experiments with brushless drive drillmotors and revised kits.

For nationals I will need to refresh the ants ktis. They seem popular still. I reallly need to add in 10A voltage cut-out so that its simpler for people running them at gallery. I also might add larger batteries as this is always an issue. Other than that only a few servo arms and plastic parts have failed so thats an easy fix.

We will probably also need some for of demo bots again. Not sure if the gallery will be keen on these but one more thing on the TODO list.

Vivid Tidy Up
Still a few bits and pieces to finish off but all looks relatively positive. Erica has been in contact with them as she was main contact/organser in the lead up. Seem very impressed by the attendance and quite keen (defintely more keen than me) to do it again next year.
