okays i can think now... photos help.. as you can see the motor i got is rather tiny >_> its cute though hah

and it wouldnt be a dylon robot is there was no room to move inside it xD

no idea if the brushless will spin the shell but one way to find out, will mount it up tomorrow maybe

and too lazy to drag the saw thing out from underneath heaps of crap.. it doubles as a workbench lol.. so i took a photo of what i could get to, the slot in it is for a straight edge that i dont have on it atm.. its kinda cut straight with it though easier just to follow a line

well seeing as this event in august looks to be rather good, i thought id best make something that would be worth the trip, while the fbs would look cool its not really going to win.. sooo the only solution is a solid death spinner gotta keep the entertainment factor Razz but a more winning design hmm

i happen to have a 6mm thick 26cm long bis400 weapon bar weighing at 470g i had cut ages ago laying around so thought time to use it Razz

very F-Bomb-esque solid frame flimsy drive mounts hah anywho..

frame base will be from 6mm bis400 dont want it bending now Razz and the other thinner black bits are some 3mm stainless i got laying around for some extra support Shocked

3 pieces of 6mm poly as a bearing block with 2 huge bearings inside can never have enough support Razz

drive part is just some 6mm poly, should be solid enough to not flex around too much seeing as the bar misses the bottom of the drives by a few mm >_>

umm what else, 3530 brushless on 3S though if it doesnt look fast enough ill upgrade Razz

so yeah be more fun and doable.. getting the fbs shell balanced is currently becoming a nightmare Confused

the classic fbs balance issue. fair enough!

interesting cad. i suggest going for 4s off the bat, its worth it, the 3530 runs hot but kicks ass

todays progress:

after working with only polycarb for ages my welding is a little rusty >_> itll hold though.. i hope Confused

will be finished either tomorrow or tuesday, not much left to do.. definitely the solidest beetle i have ever made, not afraid of this one cracking to pieces Razz

all is getting there.. minor setback but it'll be fine..
wouldnt be a dylon robot if everything fit snug Razz

cool thing i have noticed, cause the drive part is seperate i can flip that over and it suddenly becomes an overhead spinner.. useful? will soon see hmm

got some new pulleys for the beetle today so gave it a test.. running 1:1.5 instead of 1:2 now so bit faster.. there is a shitload of slip atm so when i fix that itll be even faster..
oh broke a belt in the vid >_>

left to do:
seems need slightly bigger wheels and then just to mount the electronics and its ready.. see how long itll last before it destroys itself >_>

That vertical spinner is really clever, filling the core with plastic is a great way to lower weight while keeping up the KE. I might have to copy that....

wired it all up and got the beetle driving.. drives nice.. handles rather well.. might be different with the weapon going who knows..

for once this robot is too dangerous to test inside so no weapon spinning in this video.. plus im out of belts >_>
needs some new wheels.. i only have 40mm ones and it needs about 50mm so i had glued rubber bands to them for the time being just to see if it works fine.. im rather happy with how it turned out.. just some more weight to remove and some kind of top for it and itll be done..
