Just wondering if this power supply can be tricked into turning on to run battery chargers?

Most likely a remote antenna unit.

Due to their high carrier frequency 2.4Ghz radio systems have a very small wavelength, so are prone to being blocked by metal parts of model plans and things at long range when banking and turning.

By placing a second antenna in a different spot (like on each side of the model), you greatly reduce the likely hood that your engine or something will get in the way of line-of-sight between your receiver and transmitter.

So, basically it improves long range reliability. not usually required for Robot use where the machine is so close, that the Rx antenna is likely completely immersed in the near-field signal and cant be easily blocked.

I just noticed another SS radio: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/utm_source/07_16_2009_newsletter/utm_medium/email/utm_content/5086372/utm_campaign/ProTek%20R/products_id/34416/n/Traxxas-4-Channel-TQ-24GHz-Radio-System-No-Servos

This one is not the cheapest wheel radio on the block at $139 USD, but it has 4 channels, which would make it ideal for a bot like Demon with extra features

AMain hobbies is a good place to deal with, but I'd be interested if you find somewhere cheaper once shipping is included.
