No heated bed, nor adjustable by the looks of it, so add those features + full sheet metal frame into the price difference. Honestly you need the heated bed even for PLA especially in these temps. Razz

I got one of those today in my first hobbyking order! It's charging batteries as I type, pity I don't have a 12V supply that can put out the current it wants.

Got a computer power supply ? Shove a paperclip to short the green and black wire on the thick motherboard connector and you can use that.

I'm currently using a lab style variable voltage/current power supply, but I do want to get something to go with the charger so I don't have to lug the lab supply around. So I'll track down a cheap computer supply then.

Hobbyking does sell power supplies as well to suit their chargers.

Or you can save quite a bit on a bare 13.8V PSU on eBay if you don't mind mounting it in a plastic yourself.

+1 for cheap ebay jobby.
get whatever the highest voltage your charger can support, it'll mean you can stuff more current into the batteries (should such a thing be needed)

1kw for $50 delivered. Can't get enough of these units. Cool

The nice thing is they have an IEC plug on the back so no DIY 240v wiring needed.

Now I'm kicking myself for throwing out so many PSUs like that when I was at the last IT job. We literally filled up skip bins with old HP servers & parts like that! An official HP part like that would set you back around $300 or more.

Tiny, probably about half the width of the ones we use on the chargers, same length and thickness.

The DL585 servers were only 3 RU high so these are about 80 to 83mm high.

on-line GST:

So what does everyone think about the proposed GST on all imports over $20? I bought some camera gear that was just over the $1K limit and while I expected the 10% tax, I was really surprised when the bill came in at more like 20%! I also got hit with some duty and then there was a hefty 'assessment fee' of $45; being charged for paying tax is the ultimate government double dip Mad. If things work like that with a $20 threshold, small items could have a 200% mark-up.

My take is that many small on-line purchases will simply vanish when people don't want to pay the import cost and can't buy the same thing locally. I already notice that many UK builders hate the idea of importing parts that are not available locally as they get hit with an assessment fee.

Other predictions: people will start buying intangible products like music, video and e-books from small O/S outlets that don't sign up to collect GST for the government. Also piracy is going to explode when legal content starts costing more.
