What do you think of the software? I never bothered to get it going for my E902 charger. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

I guess the info could be useful to someone, but the charger itself provides all the necessary data. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

Setback and/or failure here, I don't like learning things the hard way but sometimes its the only way. The drum assembly has some major flaws, it can't be treated without warping and it will be very unbalanced(a big prob @ high RPMs). I like to design/build different bots, but that can make it tough for the uneducated like me .
I'm trying to find different alternatives, but most options so far are unrealistic. One day I will have a neat combat robot with a weapon.... @ the moment I just don't know which direction to take..... _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Can you not make the drum from something already hard and then weld or screw the teeth to the drum? Other people seem to have large diameter drums that work, so it must be possible... _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

Possible yes, but @ what cost. Something that is already hard and welding is a no no. I have no more than 5mm room for bolt heads or similar inside the drum, the thought of the internal and external curve of the drum to bolt things onto is undesirable. The option I do like is an aluminum drum with a milled slot for a nice square hard steel tooth. The problem with that is the aluminum stock, I have found one that may work but it needs to be bored out a bit 5mm. lol _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. just a thought, could you maybe make a cage of sorts to put inside the drum when treated to try to get it to keep its shape. then later dispose of the cage/brace. _________________ Bots that do not destroy you, only make you stronger.

Good thought thanks, apparently theres no stopping a piece when its being treated and that would still leave the balance issue as well.
I might see if I can acquire a aluminum tube tomorrow, wish me luck _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

So can you run it, without it being heat treated? Maybe if you speak really nicely to a mechanic the can tell you where you would need to add more weight. _________________ They say that he crossed the fine line, from insanity to genius.

Its not ideal, how hard it is now. How do those guys balance things anyway? I might have to do some reading up... _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

i havent read the thread much but is the drum mild steel? if it is i would think heat treating it would be pretty worthless in the scheme of things. perhaps if it were chromoly.
the 5mm galvanised pipe in viscerals held up pretty farking good in the scheme of things. jolt, snack masheen and jeffs brushless spinner have layed into it a couple of times and its gouged out but by no means inoperaple. and thats a years worth of running.

Heres the thing
you dont need a hard drum, you want hard teeth.
Most people bolt/weld high carbon steel/hardened steel on to a mild drum. A hard drum would be likely to shatter on a big impact. Hard facing rod seems to do ok if you do it in sections and quench it. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

A few more firsts for me this weekend.
First time working with titanium, it's a battery mount plate and I'm happy with the way it turned out.
Also first time I've produced something with a lathe and I'm also very happy with the way it turned out, all thou it did take some time .
What do you think of the hub Nick? I might do a bit more work on it and express post it to you to have a look @. If you think its OK, I'll make another 5. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
