Steel all the way! With this robot, you have to take the same aprouch as a FBS, this drum is not only your weapon, but also your armour, it should be the strongest thing in the robot. if it gets a slash or a buckle in it, everything inside is going to cop one hell of a mashing.
Go back to the Hardox drum idea... If you can't find someone local to do the fabrication, get someone else who can... For the amount of money your putting inside that drum, you can't chance it to get a ding on the first impact and have it shredd everything on the inside.. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

I think Plan-G is 8mm boiler tube.
Use steel or a similar mass of Al (roughly 3x the thickness).
I don't think you need an overly hard tube. Also balance can be done after its made provided its somewhere near right. Our boiler tube is made by bending and welding, I'm not sure if dad lathed it but he probably did. Keep in mind though it hasn't gone tooth to tooth with jolt. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Reboots drum is closer to 4mm but it is oval and dented after the Jolt fight. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

interesting
heres a few things i found on the cosmos website about drums to hold the teeth on. one is the massive bit of tapped steel to hold the drum in
and the other has a raised outer edge to capture the teeth, which probably is a lighter way then welding aluminium to the backs of the teeth but weaker.. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

I would be interested to find out more about your current project. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

it'd be way stronger if the bars on the inside matched the radius of the drum _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Testing of the weapon for my new bot should be in the next couple of weeks Phil, and I will be bringing it along to the next meet for a demo. I'll give details after its first testing, which I'm hoping will be very impressive. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. It was a shame you didn't make the meet. I was looking forward to seeing your progress. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

My custom 60 x 100 ram with special shuttle valve @ 600 psi, using a four bar linkage. Projectile weight of 13.6Kg, landing 5 meters away(uphill) and I couldn't see how high(I'm guessing 4 meters).
Also Phillp I would like to thank you for inspiration, we do flippers best here in Queensland! _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

What does your weapon weight? That is, the ram, buffer, valve and four bar linkage. Has your design changed over the last year or so? Does it fire and reset reliably?
The above should read; Trent does the best flipper. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

I've had a good squint at the video and would guess that it reached 5 metres.
I'd love to see another video at full pressure ...just pan back a bit next time ... it might even come close to my 7.5 metre guesstimate @ f.p.

Thanks Phil, remember that video is NOT at full pressure
I took some pics for ya....
No the design hasn't changed, it fires and resets fine. It just needs a spring return or something. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
