If the price is right, I might be temped to buy some packs for an EV Put me down for a possible 5 to 7 packs.

Has anyone thought about charging large A123 packs for EVs? I don't want to buy ten small chargers and balancing sounds more important after Glen's Robowars experience.

ive got to think about that too for my mini bike. its going to have all 6 in it so thatll be interesting to charge.

i think if we have a massive balancer then it would be plenty safe to charge the packs in parrallel so we could just use a 10 cell LIFE charger at 10 amps like the infinity etc. which should charge the whole bike in an hour.

so finding a balancer capable of 60 cells will be the interesting part Razz

I was thinking along the same lines. the EV packs will have parallel strings of cells so "in theory" we should only need an active balancer that does one string of cells and then buy one for each string. I know there are LIPO balancers that will do up to 10 cells, so a similar LIFE balancer can't be too far off.

The Hyperion LBA10 balancer comes close, its got A123 settings and you can string two together for 12 cells. I'm going to get two soon. Smile Add those to my 10A 12S capable charger and your set. Smile

cool where past the 50 packs point. i contacted a couple of Ebay sellers and definitely wont get them any cheaper than $50US there. so im guessing that is around the wholesale price.

ill ring the locals and distributors this arvo.

but in any case $70us from ebay seems to be the cheapest the big sellers will get me. hopefully the distributors will knock that down a tad.

How about paying a friendly US builder to be our agent with the distributors? It isn't likely the distributors will want to ship outside the US, so paying a builder in extra packs to trans-ship our packs would probably be cheaper than an EBay seller looking to make a margin. If we were lucky, we could bump the order up to 100 packs with other US builders jumping onboard Cool

Chad's an enterprising guy...

haha fair enough, how was work after sunday for yah Neweyn Razz

had some time at work with the purchasing guys to find the OEM manufacturer of the cells. so i was thinking we could order the 500-600 cells as "samples". and yes that would probably be about a sample size Shocked

if everyones happy to recieve the bare cells? ill get them to start conversing with them with regards to price and things. but they also sell about 300 versions of this cell in different sizes and capacities etc.

I'm happy to go with the majority, but a little more AH capacity would be nice.
