That looks like the start of a very solid bot - do I see a custom double reduction gearbox in there? How does the lifter arm work?

Yep, they are 'zombie mods' so named because they're constructed from the bits of drills long past Laughing All metal gears with a double reduction to a normal drill gearbox. The lifting arm is ultra simple and is a front pivoting plate with a rod on the gearbox output shaft, so no side force will be transfered to the gearbox direct. Smile Should be solid enough!

I reckon you'll ended up breaking the gears on the carrier plates if you can get enough torque generated in the last stage. This is what kept happening in Schmackhed's drives @ Battleshed...

should have a block of soft rubber between the arm and the drill to stop the pins shearing off (cause they will fo sure) and maybe put the drives in front of under the wedge Very Happy

I'll see if i can move the drives, but they might get in the way out the front...
I can use some sort of shock mount, but it would probably be fairly useless in the end if the pins are going to shear then they'll shear! However, I do have 6mm case hardened rod which was considerably expensive to obtain. Would it even be possible to drill the gears out this much?
Confused

Drilling them to 6mm would leave very little meat in them, probably just end up splitting them under load. I would just andrew mod them with 6 pins and a support plate.

would an s28-150 mag be sufficient enough to spin up tfr's weapon, like relic? coz i think that that is a winning combination and that relic has tapped into the goldmine of this particular situation Cool (friction drive)

MUCH NEEDED AND DELAYED EDIT: wtf am I talking about, of course that would be enough power, me as a newbie, Razz

Your question doesn't make much sense - what's the weapon you are spinning up? The short Mag motor has plenty of power, but the guy who built Relic has an amazing workshop and much experience - and then it tanked last year anyway...

I am talking about your discontinued undercutter and I am saying that instead of trying to incorporate a complicated brushless system as weapon power, you should whack in the short mag if you want the friction drive, that is if you ever plan on finishing it.
i noticed his very nice workshop but you dont need every tool in the world to make relic

i just realised how confusing i sound and how, out of topic, this post is Rolling Eyes but what im suggesting is this:
you should continue on with your undercutter project as robowars hasn't had many huge hitters like the american bots and a powerful robot now, would overwhelm the competition. and as a continuation of the last time people were discussing your 'robot', im suggesting that you use the short mag to power it.
sorry for the randomness Embarassed

Talking in complete sentences without "txt"ing words would make your posts much easier to read and understand as well. I'm not talking about being a spelling or grammar Nazi but at least make an effort.

So you mean Angus's undercutter, not my Scissorhands (which uses a Mag and a Whyachi gearbox BTW). Friction drive can save heaps of weight, but it can also be fragile and very hard on bearings. Angus was looking at that and I think he was on the right track last year.

Yeah.
What I was going to use was a Blue inrunner (as in orbit) with a 2:1 spur gear reduction onto a Banebot wheel to friction drive the blade. I haven't done this yet because such a setup is beyond the means of my crappy workshop, and only someone like Nick could pull it off, and he's busy enough making his own bots Razz. I've also stalled the project due to cost reasons...

A mag would be too heavy and also cost all the money in my account.

The last Vic event was tame in comparison to some NSW competitions. Bender is simply a reliable spinner and that's why it won, and came second last year. The final for robowars the previous year was a lot more... violent...

yes i mean that robot. i also believe that he was on the right track, it's a shame he gave up on it though.
just a little(well it's not very little) point that always bugs me on scissorhands, you could use less frame and more weight on other areas. scissorhands is a great robot but i always tend to think that you could cut back on that area. (sorry for being a picky newbie)(and sorry 4 da txtin)

EDIT: i was in the middle of ^that^ when you posted angus and all i can say is i can't wait for it to be finished(except for the fact that i won't want to fight it)Smile
